Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Schroeder was surrendered to Lancaster Shelter by his family when they moved without him. We scooped him up on June 12 to become a Frosted Face! Schroeder is 12 years old, weighs 58 lbs., and is very sweet. He really craves attention and affection. He LOVES to play fetch, climbs in our laps, and loves belly rubs!
We were so happy when Schroeder was chosen for a two-week Frosted Fling, but we were ecstatic when his Fling Family let us know that they wanted him to stay as a long-term foster!
His now-Foster Mom reports:
"Schroeder is such a doll!
We've found the perfect balls for playing fetch, his favorite things for an afternoon kong, and there are many miles to be had on daily walks. He seems to be settling in a bit - more at ease for taking morning and afternoon snoozes, and also learning the house rules. Mops, brooms, pillows, cushions and blankets are still off limits. He has tried sneaking off with things that are not his (anything on the floor seems to be fair game), but a quick 'no-drop-it' has worked in a pinch!
We are working on leash walking and lunging behaviors with the help of local pack walks and trainer workshops... all of that will come in due time. He is a very smart dog, and a huge love bug (he thinks he's a little lap dog sometimes!). Schroeder definitely needs to be the only pet in the home... and maybe a home with only teenagers and adults as he sometimes forgets how big he really is, lol!
Schroeder loves to walk anywhere and is the most successful when places are not busy - it was so fun to see him at the beach, he was so interested in the water and waves! It is so fun to watch him chase and retrieve a toy! He is a fast runner and looks so happy to be playing fetch!
Schroeder is the biggest love bug. He is starting to respond to his name, and will come galloping towards you, tail wagging, for lots of pets and love. The tail wagging is really heart-melting! He loves to bury is muzzle between our knees. He was a doll during a trip to the local small pet store, getting belly rubs and treats from all who worked there.
Schroeder's favorite spot is on the sofa with his humans, so he can lay next to us with his head in a lap. His is a velcro-dog, always wanting to be with his people, and will follow us humans from room to room. Schroeder attempts to crawl in human laps or paw for attention. Consistent boundary setting has been successful.
Schroeder sleeps in his kennel overnight without issue. He patiently waits to be let out in the morning. He can sometimes be reluctant to enter his kennel during the day... but once there he will snooze and wait. He's been successful with human departures from home for up to an hour so far.
Lots of activity, consistency, play, and love (oh, and definitely an empty lap from time to time!) seem to be exactly what Schroeder needs."
Schroeder is thriving in his foster home but is still looking for his forever family. Might that be you? To schedule a time to meet him, please email adopt@frostedfacesfoundation.org.
