King is a 5 year old Husky mix weighing around 40lbs. His story is a tear jerker and when we heard it, we had to bring him along with another dog we pulled from a shelter in NJ. King was surrendered in March of 2023 after the families new landlord put in place a no dog policy leaving them no choice but to surrender their beloved dog or lose their home. The shelter manager said it was the most heartbreaking surrender she had ever witnessed and that it was clear how much this family loved their dog. Shortly after, King shut down completely. He stopped eating, wouldn’t go outside, and was incredibly distrusting of all people. Though he improved within his year there, he was still too nervous to be considered adoptable and despite reaching out to 20 some rescues, none stepped up for him.
King is now the poster child for how much a different environment can do for a dog. By his second switch over on transport he was wagging his tail, greeting everyone, sniffing around confident as ever and ready to explore the world.
King loves hanging out with other easygoing dogs, enjoys the company of cats, eats all of his food with a little bribe (a small amount of wet food mixed in) and has loved meeting new people. He is crate trained and potty trained when on a consistent routine. He loves going for walks but gets excited and is working on his loose leash walking skills. He sometimes wants to mark in new places but we anticipate this behavior will get better after his neuter in July. He does need an adopter who can listen to him and respect his space when needed (for example, he does not like to be picked up or pet/touched abruptly) so he is looking for a home without young children as his only requirement.
Please note, King is only available on a foster to adopt basis until his neuter in July. If you’re interested in fostering or adopting, please fill out an application at www.rosebudrescue.com/adopt
*If you have previously submitted an application for another dog who is pending or has been adopted, you can email us with your full name and phone number and ask us to process your application for another dog or general pre-approval instead*

Additional adoption info
We will first look over your application and decide if you are a good fit for the dog in question. If we feel that dog is not right for you but have another we would recommend, we will reach out to you. If an application is missing ANY information, or if we feel anything indicated on the application does not align with the care we want our dogs to have, you will be denied.
The next step will be to reach out to your references. Please give them a heads up! You must call your vet and giving them permission to release information about current and past pets in your home to Rosebud Rescue and our volunteers. We will inquire with your vet about the care of current and past animals in your home and their vaccination status, spay/neuter status, monthly preventatives, etc. If renting, we must get confirmation from your landlord that you are able to adopt a dog. Please understand that reaching out to your references is time consuming, and we will only call once. If we are unable to get sufficient information from the references provided in a timely manner, we will not be able to approve your application.
Once fully approved, a representative will get in touch with you to schedule a meet and greet. The first meet and greet will be with human family members at our rescue or the dogs foster home. If there are other pets in your home we will do a slow and proper introduction at the home check.
Our adoption process is slow, well thought out, and in the best interest of our dogs and their adopters. In an effort to not rush things, we place a pending adoption status on our dogs after a meet and greet is scheduled. After the initial meet and greet, you will have 1 week to follow up with us on your decision before the dog is made available for adoption.

More about this rescue
Rosebud Rescue Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization in West Falls, NY specializing in herding breed dogs. Our goal is to rehabilitate and rehome to owners who understand the needs of a high energy working dog, and to offer permanent sanctuary and safe management for those who have been deemed unadoptable to the general public.
While we'll do our best to help any dog in need, our focus is primarily on herding breeds. These breeds are often misunderstood due to their drive, energy level, and instincts. Our goal is to provide our adopters with the education and tools to live healthy, fulfilling lives with these incredibly smart and loyal dogs!
Another area of focus for us are dogs with disabilities, behavioral issues, or medical issues. These dogs often require some extra attention and care in one way or another and we pride ourselves on taking the time to work with them to not only make their quality of life the best it can be, but to also help our adopters maintain that care after welcoming their new 4-legged family member.
