My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How to Adopt Me:  Contact us at HPHS@Ymail.com and ask for an ADOPTION APPLICATION

Zorro is a sweet cat that has lived his entire life indoors until now in chronic foster care.  He loves being near 'his people', and gets along well with dogs, but rather be the top cat. Despite his fondness for company, Zorro is an independent guy and not at all clingy, he has good house manners, so your furniture will not be damaged and you will not awaken to a claw on your nose.  He does not dash out the door, play the trip hazard game, or hide from new people. Zorro is very personable, recognizes his name, behaves well off lead (as long as there are no other cats around) and is very comfortable RV camping (responsibly handling indoor/outdoor access without incident).  Zorro may have an allergy to cotton and certain B vitamins, as we have found limiting his access to these things has helped his fur grow in beautifully since he first came to us.  In summary, Zorro is an adventurous cat who is easy to live with, but really wants a stay-at-home mom or dad to hang out with and would not mind having a canine buddy. Would you like to give Zorro a try?  We have dropped his adoption fee to only $40 to help get him into a home ASAP. To meet Zorro, please text or call 530-338-1222.

HPHS supports spay/neutering of all pets. Adopt from us and your new pet is spayed or neutered.  They are up to date with their shots as well.   Discount spay/neuter vouchers are also available at the Second Chance Thrift Store. Income verification is necessary tp receive the voucher.

Additional adoption info

The High Plateau Humane Society is primarily concerned with finding the most appropriate home for our cats and dogs. Please understand that when we ask questions we are not trying to be nosey, we are simply trying to get to know you so we can be sure the animal you are interested in is really the right animal for you, and that you have the tools and resources needed to care for him or her. So, during our interview process we may ask you for references, or conduct a home check to be sure your home environment is appropriate for the animal. We appreciate your patience with us, and your willingness to share information. Thank you for considering one of our foster animals.

Go meet their pets

CATS: Come visit our Second Hand Thrift Store to see our adoptable cats Wednesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. Call ahead to be sure we are open, as we occasionally need to close due to staffing issues.

DOGS: Call our Dog Program Coordinator, Jenn Andersen at 530-708-2377 if you are interested in meeting one of the adoptable dogs. They are all fostered & so special arrangements must be made to see them.

More about this rescue

The High Plateau Humane Society (HPHS) is an all-volunteer organization that was founded in 1987. We rescue hundreds of dogs and cats each year in Modoc County, California, and (like most rescues) we do not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States. Our funding primarily comes from our adoption fees (which pay for about 70% of the medical costs for our average cat or dog), proceeds from our thrift store, and from donations from people like YOU! We are the only organization in Modoc County dedicated to rescuing all adoptable dogs that come through our area shelters. If we don't take them, they are euthanized, and we can't take them if we don't have the funds or foster homes to support them. So, your donations, as well as adoptions, really do save lives! Thank you for your support.
