If sweet is what you're looking for in a pet dog, look no further as Maizey might be the sweetest girl you'll ever meet! She seems have a bit of an old soul, and has the energy level and communication style of a more mature dog than her age. Gentle, sweet and kind are the words people have used to describe her after meeting her. Maizey spends her time looking out the front window at birds and passers by, playing with her stuffed toys, keeping watch in the backyard for critters, going on walks, and lounging in her dog bed next to whichever human's home office she chooses for the day while they work.
She is great with everyone she meets including both male and female adults, and children. Maizey is potty trained, is learning to walk well on a leash, and loves exploring the backyard with her foster brothers and sister. She is quite the cuddler and loves to lay next to people on the couch in the evening, or be picked up like a baby and carried around. At night, Maizey prefers to sleep in her dog bed in the living room, but loves to come up for morning cuddles.
Maizey is estimated to be 10.5 months old and 24 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.
We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.
This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
