My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Joe is currently housed at Rochester Animal Control.

This handsome fella is Joe, and he is in need of a forever home! He's a sweet boy who was found out on his own, and taken in to the Rochester Animal Control. He's been patiently waiting for his family to claim him, but unfortunately it does not appear that will be happening. His impound time has passed, and now he's looking to the future! He's seen the vet and gotten his vaccines and a check up, and now he's ready to start looking for his forever family. The vet believes he's around 5 years of age, so he's through the wild puppy stages, but still has plenty of energy for fun adventures with his family! If you think Joe is the one for you, apply online!

Joe does well with other mellow dogs who react nicely to meeting him, but he does not like reactive dogs. He should do well in a home on his own, or with a social dog. He should meet any potential doggie siblings prior to adoption.

Joe cannot go to a home with cats

Applications for adoption can be found on the homepage of the website. Once you have submitted your application a PCHS staff will contact you regarding an appointment to meet the animals you are interested in.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
