This hunky hunk is named Travis and he has all the things we love about German Shepherds…he is handsome, loyal, intelligent, trainable, soft to touch, and very playful.
His original family raised him from puppyhood but couldn’t take him with them when they had to move out of state. The staff at the shelter in Los Angeles noticed his love of toys in addition to his ‘good boy’ temperament. They referred him to us, and we snapped him right up. However, he didn’t pass our extremely stringent medical clearance (due to a spot of arthritis in one of his hips that showed up in his x-rays) so we are hoping to help him find his perfect person(s) who will enjoy and appreciate him as much as we do.
He is a sweet and playful boy who will catch a ball, play chase, tug a little (if you want him to). Besides looking a little like a teddy bear, he also looks much bigger in his photos than he is in real life. He’s actually a nice size (66 lbs) with a beautiful coat and soft loving eyes.
He has a nice off switch and once he has decided you are worth his time, he is very affectionate (isn’t that just SO shepherd…?)
His only bugaboo? He will need some further work on his leash skills.
Travis is a fine dog who will thrive in an active environment with a normal exercise routine, just nothing too high impact (jumping off rubble piles and such…)
Calling all Shepherd lovers! Don’t let this one get away!

We are a national training center for search and rescue dogs where we professionally train and then pair talented dogs with fire department handlers at no cost to them. Dogs that do not continue with search dog training (for a variety of reasons) are career changed or available for adoption into pet homes as part of our Lifetime Care Program. This program ensures that once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.
Once we find an adoptive family for our extraordinary dogs, we train the canine and the family, stay in touch with the household, and act as the dog’s advocate for life, making sure that he or she is receiving excellent care in a happy, healthy environment.
The program ensures that every dog in the SDF family has a wonderful life and is in no risk of re-entering the shelter system. This is SDF’s unwavering commitment.
