Koopa is estimated to be a 5-year-old male yellow-bellied slider. He has had at least 2 prior homes before coming into rescue. So his actual age is a mystery. Koopa is very curious and will swim up to pop his head out of the water to watch his surroundings. His appetite is healthy and LOVES food. His favorite treats are carrots, apples, and dried shrimp. He'll also gobble up the occasional cricket. His main diet should include a variety of frozen adult turtle food cubes, nutri-sticks, turtle pellets, lettuces (like romaine), and mealworms. Some treats Koopa would love to try from you are freeze-dried chicken/duck/fish cubes. Since Koopa is a bigger boy - about 7 inch shell size - he will need a minimum of 70 gallon tank size (but would love larger). He'll also need an adequate basking area that'll hold his weight and that he can fit fully onto.
From the foster family: Hi! My name is Koopa and my foster family says I'm a Troopa! I came to rescue with my brother, but he's been adopted already. So I'm waiting for my family. I'd love to grow old with you (I'll live to be over 30 years) and experience life together. I'm a little bit shy but curious. In the water, I pop my head out to say hello and ask for more food... even if you've already fed me. When I bask, I prefer peace and quiet. Sudden movements very close to my tank scare me and I go back to swimming. But my foster family says with time I learn to be cozy with these surprise noises and will be glad in any home! On the hot summer days, I like to bask outside and soak up the sun's warmth. This makes me the perfect sunbathing and tanning companion. Just keep an eye on me though... I get adventurous and might cruise off or a bird or other animal might think I'm a snack. I don't want to get lost or eaten.
