I am the spectacular Pelusa (known by Grandma as "That Pelusa”) and I am perfect. I am a mature dog with a young spirit looking for a stay at home, calm family.
I believe in sticking to you like velcro and I enjoy being carried and dressing up. I simply love couch potato movie time but keep your distance as I like my space on the couch (Recently I’ve become a bit growly, however I won’t bite.)
I love treats but am watching my girlish figure and I eat carrots, pieces of apples and green beans but no regular/junk food type of dog treats because it affects my stomach. I recently found out I have a sensitive stomach and eat sensitive stomach canned food only.
I am fine with other dogs my size and enjoy playing that I initiate. Let me tell you that cats just don’t appreciate me. I would be cat friendly to a cat who likes dogs carrying them around, running and playing chase. I can fit under most items a cat can hide in. I am definitely not a fan of young dogs or puppies that don’t know about boundaries and personal space and constantly touch me nor a fan of large dogs. I will defend myself if threatened by another dog that comes up too quickly. My BFF’s at my foster home are the senior dogs. They understand me and mind their business. I play when I want to.
I simply love attention on walks or rides in a stroller. I like shopping at pet stores and picking up pup cups at Starbucks and interacting with the public. A lot of people have commented that I look like a model dog because of the way I strut up and down the isles! Other people have said I look like a teddy bear or a puppy. I just love the attention and will walk right up to them to be pet. Sometimes, I like to shoplift and take things off of the shelves at Petsmart without telling you, so you should keep an eye on me. :)
Due to my mature age of 12 years young and slight sight impairment (I no longer drive), I will occasionally wander around and sneak outside of the house if a door is left open so caution is needed to know where I am and you need a good pair of sneakers to catch me. I also occasionally get confused about my surroundings when outside or inside the house. I will sometimes cry if left alone, even for a few minutes in a crate or not. I easily clear over puppy/ child gates and a little higher.
Take me for a car ride; I am good on car rides; safety first as I require a harness or car seat to hold me in place. Stairs occasionally can be challenging to me and I prefer to be carried because sometimes I miss a step in an hurry and fall.
My adopter should be willing and able to handle senior medical care and take me for my semi annual lab and vet appointments for senior dogs and be dedicated to my ongoing care. I do need grooming every six to eight weeks to keep looking like a beautiful, well kept senior. If my fur isn’t kept just right I try to do it myself and learned I get hair balls that way and I don’t want to see the vet for that again. They took pictures of my insides and it was quite invasive and rude.
I am up to date on vaccines and currently have an enlarged heart from previous heartworm disease and I no longer need heart meds.
