My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello world.... My name is Alika, which means beautiful! I am one of 14 little dogs recently taken to a shelter to assist with rehoming. As you can imagine, coming from a home with 14 little dogs, I am very good with other dogs. I am very sweet and friendly! I am about 17 pounds and around 12 years old. I was in rough shape due to lack of routine care from my former owners. I was missing a lot of fur due to flea dermatitis and had eye and ear infections that were treated- thank goodness! I am considered special needs due to my age and poor eyesight but am so happy to have love and care now. I am looking for a place to live out my golden years with nothing but love. Come meet me one Saturday! Love, Alika

This rescue is a partnership between Second Chance Pets and Bay Area Pet Adoptions. While some of the pups are in foster care, the others are being housed at BAPA. Second Chance Pets volunteers will slowly rotate some of the pups through foster care to get to know them. We really cannot speak to how all of them will do in a home just yet. There are just too many to place all in foster care right now. While some of the pups are in better shape than others, all will receive veterinary care. All came covered in fleas so are missing fur. This is a work in progress for sure!

If you are interested in her, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com to get more information on how to fill out an application and have a great meet and greet to see if we are a match made in heaven. Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $190 or $245 for puppies. All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters must complete an application and SCP volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP adoption counselors review the applications, conduct in-person interviews and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. SCP checks applicants' vet references and may conduct a home visit at its discretion. So that the best interests of the pet are served, SCP reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. The adoption fee starts at $110 for cats ($175 for two cats), $190 for dogs and $245 for puppies.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, feline leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.

Go meet their pets

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Our adoptable animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday (cats 10:30-2:30 and dogs 11:00-2:00) at the Petco store in Clear Lake (2410 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, TX 77058 - corner of Bay Area and Space Center). A few cats may also be seen during the week in the condos at this Petco location.
