My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tidbit is a teeny 10lb senior little who in incredibly sweet but does have a laundry list of medical issues including dental disease, luxating patellas, Heartworm, and has a 4/6 heart murmur. He is a very sweet little guy who LOVES to play with other dogs so would do great in a home with another one. He doesn't seem to mind the size of the dog, and seems to want to play with whatever size is in front of him, but another dog seems to really help Tidbit acclimate to his surroundings for sure!

We have learned that Tidbit does have storm anxiety but we have some good meds to help him with that! He also visited the vet June 24th and we know that we will be able to neuter him and give him a good dental after he goes through Heartworm treatment, which he completed end of August, and we also learned that his heart is not yet enlarged so yay for that! He will need to have x-rays every 6 months to check on that progress.

Bonaparte's Retreat will be more than happy to take on the costs for his care.

Additional adoption info

Our mission is to insure that all our rescued dogs are adopted into loving and permanent homes. We screen potential adopters and do all we can to insure that you adopt the right dog for your home, family, and lifestyle. Our adoption process is as follows:

Complete our online adoption application at the link below OR visit our website to access the application: http://www.bonapartesretreat.org/adoption.html

If your application is approved, we arrange for you to meet the dog. We then bring the dog to you for a home visit to make sure the adoption is a good fit.

If you make the decision to adopt, a three-week trial adoption period begins during which either you or we can change course and cancel the adoption decision. During these three weeks, we are committed to doing everything possible to assist you and your adopted dog with adjusting to a new home and living environment.

Our adoption fee is $125 (or $75 for special needs or senior dogs, a senior being any dog 7 years or older). Once you have made the decision to finalize the adoption, you will complete our Adoption Agreement and Release.

All our adoptable dogs have received vaccinations, been spayed or neutered, tested for heartworms and either treated or started on prevention, and are current on flea and tick prevention.

Because of our process, we usually adopt only in the middle-Tennessee area (within an approximate hour's drive of Nashville) and regret that we are unable to do adoptions outside this area or out-of-state.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Because we are foster-based, we do not have a facility open to the public. When you submit an application for one of our adoptable dogs, we arrange for you to meet that dog one-on-one as soon as possible.

Adoption Events and Meet & Greet Events are held at various times throughout the year at many locations. These are not regularly scheduled, so always check our Facebook page or website to confirm dates and times. Better yet, sign up for our e-newsletter at this link and you'll never miss an event or story: https://app.e2ma.net/app2/audience/signup/1746961/1727736/?v=a

More about this rescue

Named in memory of Bonaparte, her own adopted shelter dog, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and lifelong dog lover Emmylou Harris established Bonaparte’s Retreat Dog Rescue in 2004. Located in Nashville,

We rescue shelter dogs from Metro Nashville Animal Control and from municipal shelters in surrounding counties. We often focus on shelters dogs who are overlooked or deemed unadoptable--such as senior and large dogs or dogs in need of immediate medical care.

We are dedicated to providing nurturing care for these dogs when their allotted time at a shelter has elapsed. Our mission is to prevent these wonderful animals from being euthanized and to adopt them into permanent, loving homes.

Bonaparte's Retreat is a small foster-based 501(c)3 nonprofit dog rescue organization. Visit our website to learn about how you can help, support us, foster, volunteer, or adopt. www.bonapartesretreat.org
