My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog`s foster family reports:

Bella Donna is a SUPER sweet, very smart dog. She enjoys playing a little fetch and going for walks, but honestly she is not a high energy dog. She is happy to sleep for a good part of the day. She is housetrained and is very quickly learning good house manners.

She is friendly with other dogs and likes to play, though she can play pretty exuberantly outside and is very vocal, so any other household dogs should ideally be tolerant of that and able to handle that. IE, she may not be the best choice if you have a household of small senior dogs. In the house she plays really well with my young female doberman and is extremely tolerant of the doberman’s shenanigans.

She loves people and is friendly to all adults, but she seems to want to avoid small children. Older kids are probably fine. I’m not sure about cats as she hasn’t met any.

She is a really great dog to take out on the town as she just chills wherever she is. When I take her to breweries or restaurants she just lays down under the table and calmly watches the scene. She rides in a car very well, just lays down in the back seat.

I think she would make a really great camping or hiking dog as she is quite velcro and likes to stick with you. She follows me around the house like my shadow. But I don’t think you need an “active” lifestyle to keep her happy either, she is honestly very adaptable and is mostly just happy to be where you are.

She doesn’t really like to be confined so we haven’t made a ton of progress on crate training, but I think it could happen with patience. In about one week she got used to being in our guest room and she sleeps quietly all night in there now.

Once she gets used to your routine she is an easy and totally delightful dog. Whoever gets to keep her will be extremely lucky, as she just naturally has that “good dog” temperament and wants to please you.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
