Aberdeen Scottish Terrier Rescue is a registered 501(c)3

***MUST SUBMIT APPLICATION before we will respond to email or phone inquiries. Thank You for your cooperation***
Please read listings fully to the end before applying for one of our beloved rescues.
WE ARE NOT A SHELTER; WE ARE AN ALL-VOLUNTEER RESCUE WITH FULL-TIME JOBS.
Please do not contact us to look at a dog. We will contact you once we have reviewed your completed application if we think your home might be a good fit. A reference check, phone interview, and home visit will be completed before meeting an adoptable dog.
We work quickly. Please do not submit an application until you are ready to bring a new furry family member home. Expect your references to be contacted shortly after submitting your application. We adopt out to homes around WA & OR, but require that you are present for the meet and greet in Newcastle, WA.
Our adoption fee is non-negotiable. The adoption fee is due on the day of adoption in the form of a check, Zelle, or cash. We no longer accept PayPal due to their fees they charge the rescue but if the potential adopter wants to pay the fees we will accept PayPal.
The cruelty that John endured is just soul destroying. He spent his life used as a breeding machine for a breeder to live off him. She ended up lending him out to another breeder who beat him to breed for 2 years & left him outside in a cage. We believe some form of stick was used as he gets worried when he sees a broom or mop & this was experienced in his first foster home.
The original breeder ended up getting him back & continued to breed him & could no longer care for him or the other standard poodles she had & was keeping 3 to a crate & was not feeding them. We were asked could we help John & 6 other standard poodle puppies & we have to say that each of these dogs are the most lovely dogs you would ever meet.
John is the biggest sweetheart. It’s so damn sad to think about his previous life & the lack of care.
John who is now looking for his very own forever home & who will never give up on him & love him just as we do.
John is a very soft gentle soul & at the same time so full of life love. He likes to lay with you & can't be happier being petted & touched. He gets very attached to his people & they become his everything. He does not like to be left alone & in both foster homes he would & does howl if left alone. Let’s face it, both foster homes loved him deeply & he now gets to experience what love, devotion & and safe environment is. He is so content to rest his head on you & nap.
He just started enjoying toys for the very first time his foster mum said so this is so wonderful for us & for him to enjoy himself.
He loves everyone he meets & enjoys being cuddled to & given love. He enjoys sleeping on the bed with you or a pile of blankets with his foster siblings. He currently sleeps with his foster family & he did in his other foster home too.
This boy loves a good couch & so enjoys sitting on a chair & looking out the window.
He ate a clean diet in his first foster home with raw proteins, vegetables, fruits, cooked grains & supplements. He did wonderful on this diet. In his current loving foster home he is on kibble.
John’s new forever home must have a fully fenced secured backyard for his safety. He enjoys going out into the backyard & sunning himself only if you are out there with him. He adores both his foster mums & dads in both of his foster homes.
John was so matted the skin that we did not know where his tail started & ended because the matting was absolutely horrendous & severe.
John has been great with his baths because he started having them with us the moment he was rescued so he is used to them. He is used to being dried with a hairdryer. He will just let you dry him. He is wonderful with being groomed. His foster mum cleans his ears out regularly & he does really well having his ear cleaned considering we don’t know if they were ever previously done.
He has put on weight since being in the rescue.
John rides beautifully in the car & enjoys a good journey & will sit next to you with his dog’s friends. He gets very excited when he thinks he is going to go on a walk. He walks well on his lead now & did good considering he had never been taught. We are looking for a forever home for John where someone is home during the day or he can go with his people wherever possibly he can go with them. He will absolutely not do well being left alone so that will not work. We are also looking for a crate free home for the little lad only. He was left in a cage in the shelter until we rescued him.
John is looking for a forever home who will cherish him & love him as he should be loved & be patient with him.
John has been around many breeds of dogs all shapes & sizes & was fostered with other dogs in his foster home & does well with them & enjoys their company. We think some dogs would annoy him & be too much for him. In his current foster home he is with a cat only. But could be the only dog in the home if he was going to get all the attention.
John is roughly 7 years old 42 lbs & is a standard poodle & what he is mixed with we are not sure at all. He had a dental scale & polish & had 10 teeth removed including a fractured canine. He had bloodwork done & that came back good. He was treated with antibiotics & pain meds for his neuter & dental. He previously had an enlarged prostate which was causing him horrible pain but once neutered that helped the situation. He had 2 forms of yeast in his ears that were cleaned out & treated for but will be retreated again as his ears were so full of fur.
He is male, neutered, microchipped, up to date on his shots, including DHLPP, Bordatella, rabies & being dewormed.
John has been around cats since being in the rescue & the cat is blind in his foster home & has been indifferent with the cat. But it’s always up to the new family to be responsible with their animals together. We have not had him around small children. But we do not recommend small children nor cats & it’s always up to the family to be responsible with their children.
We were not there when John was conceived so we do not know who his parents were & it’s always up to the new potential family to look at the pictures & decide what they think his breed is.
As with all of our rescues & John’s friends he will need work on potty training & training, so this should be something the new family would be willing to work on & commit to. Please do not submit an application if you are not willing to commit to one of our rescues care for their whole life & that includes if they need training. Please do not email us asking is John potty trained or available, nor do we ship dogs anywhere as we will not respond.
We would never say anyone of our rescues are potty trained. Our rescues need homes where the people are understanding of their past & what they have been through & what they will need in their daily lives & not willing to give up on them & if they do need training in their new home will in fact take them to training & not just say they will when applying.
John has been through many traumas in his short time on this earth so when applying this needs to be kept in mind & for his care.
Please only submit an application if you are truly interested in adopting John & going through our process and have read his listing fully to the end & are wanting to adopt. If you are not responsive to our calls, emails or your references do not respond we will move on & remove your application from our system. You must be willing to go through our screening process which includes your references being checked, a phone interview & a virtual home visit due to covid & followed by a meet and greet & if it’s a good fit, up to our discretion. We will only be accepting applications for John who understands his needs & that meet all the requirements for this spirited little lad.
Once we find the right home for each little soul we work fast, within days so the dogs can go to their forever homes in quite a timely manner. We do not hold onto dogs for people as our goal is to save lives & please do not submit an application if you are not ready to adopt.
John has an adoption fee of $995 & is ready for his truly loving forever home & compassion & understanding of what he has been through.
