My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Bernie!

This sweet senior boy came to AFRP from Hitchcock Road Animal Services where he was fairing poorly in a shelter environment. Now in a loving foster home, Bernie is living it up in his golden years!

Bernie would love to be a perfect somebodies loving companion and he's quite the pro at it! Well-mannered and calm, he absolutely adores meeting new people and getting to shower them in his love! Bernie is just happy to be here!

Bernie currently has intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), a common condition in small breeds but he doesn't let this slow him down! He may need some extra help being lifted onto high surfaces such as a bed or a car, but otherwise has the heart of a puppy! He spends every morning getting silly with his foster, dragging his bed around being pampered. He's obsessed with sunbathing as well!

Bernie would do best in a home with adult adopters or with dog-savvy children over the age of 12. He has exhibited some signs of separation anxiety, so an owner who is home throughout the day would be ideal for Bernie. He has done well with dogs and would love to have a new sibling, but due to his age an older dog similar in temperament would be best for him. It is unknown how he will do with cats at this time but any introductions to new animals in the home should be done slowly and overtime.

Bernie is currently in foster care and meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our online dog application.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees help to cover the cost of the care the animal has received during their time with us, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment and basic foster care.

All potential adopters complete an application and are screened using a standardized series of questions by a trained adoption counselor. If the application and screening are satisfactory, a qualified adopter can complete a contract, pay the adoption fee and take the animal home.
