My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tiffany was in pretty bad condition when we picked her up from the PG shelter in December. She weighed just 6 ½ pounds and had recently been shaved due to being matted. Her eyes were in AWFUL condition and as a result, she has had multiple eye surgeries. She had her left eye removed and can only see shadows and movement with her right eye. She will need to continue with eye drops multiple times a day for the rest of her life. She doesn’t mind getting the drops in but does not like to have her eye cleaned. She also has some allergies and is currently receiving a Cytopoint shot as needed and periodic medicated baths.

She lives with 2 other small dogs and gets along well with them. I am not sure about cats and she would be best with kids over 12 years old. When the dogs start barking, she joins in and continues even after the “threat” is gone since she has no idea why she’s barking..lol.

Tiffany adjusted to her surroundings quickly and has her own room where we feed her and have pee pads laid out for her. She LOVES to eat!! She will let you know when it is mealtime and we have not found any food she does not like!! She has free rein of the home and is non-destructive when left alone (on average about 6-7 hours a day). She sleeps in my bed at night along with the rest of the dogs! I have not crated her at all. She needs to be carried down the stairs but is able to go up the stairs on her own. If there are stairs in the home, there must be a gate to prevent her from falling. We use steps for her to get on and off the couch. She loves to be on the bed and will let you know when she needs to be lifted up.

She has recently started playing with toys and tries to play with her doggie siblings every once in a while but she just keeps barking in their face and they don’t understand what she wants. She gets happy feet when she gets excited. She also greets us at the door when we get home! She walks well on leash but is rather slow because she loves to stop and sniff everything. She also has a doggie stroller that she likes to sit in and also likes to be carried. She wants to be in the same room as you and prefers to be laying on a pillow or on your lap. We think she should have an older doggie sibling so she is never alone. She definitely likes to be part of a pack. If you would like to add her to yours, apply today!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptions begin with a visit to one of our adoption events. The adoption coordinator and/or the pet's foster parent will review the applications received. The applicant (if any) whose responses best fit the needs of the particular pet will generally be contacted within a week to schedule a home visit. A vet check and personal reference is also required prior to visiting your home. Our non-refundable adoption fee is $250 for dogs, $85 for kittens ($150 for a pair of kittens), and $75 for an adult cat. The fee covers spay/neuter, core vaccines (distemper and rabies), deworming, microchipping, and the general care of the animals. Per our contract, if you cannot keep your adopted pet for any reason, it must be returned to our program. We will try to find it a new home.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

We don't have a central shelter facility, so the best place to meet our adoptable cats and dogs is at our adoption shows! If you have previously filled out an application, please bring it with you to the show! Please e-mail with any questions. We cannot guarantee that an animal you want to meet will be at the show. Please check www.pgspca.org -> adopt -> adoption_show_attendees the day before the show and we will do our best to let you know if he/she will be there!

We hold two adoption events each month, on Saturdays from 12 noon to 2 pm.

More about this rescue

The PGSPCA is a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to animal welfare. We are chartered by the State of Maryland, but we receive no state or county funds. Our activities are supported solely by contributions, dues and fundraising events.

We have three main objectives:

• To reduce the number of unwanted litters of dogs and cats through our progressive spay/neuter program – We have altered more than 20,000 animals over the past five years, many of them at no charge;

• To prevent cruelty to animals and all animal suffering through humane education, neglect and cruelty investigations, protective legal action, and an active dog and cat adoption program – We receive about 1,000 calls a month for cruelty investigations, spay and neuter assistance and adoption requests;

• To protect all animals against suffering and abuse through education on legislation affecting the protection of all animals – We regularly educate the public and provide testimony about animal welfare to county and state legislators.
