My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mia is a sweet 2 1/2 yr. old female chinchilla who is looking for a new forever home. She is currently living in NYC and would have to be picked up at her current home.

Chinchillas need special care and are a big commitment. They can live to be 15-20 years old. They are not good with young children and are nocturnal, so they sleep all day and are up making noise and playing all night. They cannot live with heat or humidity, so you MUST have working air conditioning in your resident and vehicle. Chins are not lap animals and are very active and hyper. Many people have allergies to their dust and hay (which is part of their diet), so please take that into consideration before applying for an adoption.

An adoption application can be found on the Forever Feisty Chinchilla website.

Additional adoption info

Please read our 'Adoption Policy' page as well as 'Are You Right for a Chinchilla?' page on our web site to see all the details about our adoption process. An adoption application can be found at the bottom of that page. Please give us several days to get back to you as we are very busy caring for the chinchillas and receive many applications. An adoption application MUST be filled out in full for any chinchilla listed to be considered for an adoption. You are expected to provide an appropriate and safe cage and supplies before any adoption will take place. There is a $100.00 adoption fee for each chinchilla. We do not recommend chinchillas for families that have children under the age of 14 yrs.

Since we are a home-based private rescue, only those approved for adoption may visit the rescue.

***PLEASE NOTE: At this time, with so many chinchillas looking for a new home, we cannot take all of them into our rescue. We are helping those we can't take by doing COURTESY Listings. We will list a chinchilla from CT as well as other states to help them find a home. You must still fill out one of our adoption applications and be approved for an adoption before you are paired with the current guardian of the chinchilla you are interested in.

More about this rescue

Our rescue specializes in chinchillas and we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no kill organization. We provide a healthy, loving home for unwanted and neglected chinchillas with permanent housing in our rescue and through adoptions. We educate/council the public about the physical and emotional needs of chinchillas so they learn how to provide these animals with a healthy, safe and happy life. We provide awareness of the hardships and mass breeding of chinchillas on ranches for pelting and the pet industry.

Since we opened our doors in 2003 we have rescued over 800 chinchillas. Many were in neglectful or dangerous environments. All the chinchillas receive medical care and are now living in healthy, clean and loving homes with new guardians through adoption or are permanent residence here in our sanctuary.
