My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Minnie is a gentle soul looking for a calm forever home where there is always a hand available for scritches! Minnie was picked up as a stray in Prince George, so we don't have much information about her history before she came into our care. She is a little hesitant of strangers, but once she realizes you want to be her friend she buries her head in your lap and waits for her pets! She has excellent leash manners (although she prefers her walks short and sweet!) and knows how to sit on command. She also loves a good brushing, and just melts into you while you groom her. This older gal isn't going to be a hiking or adventure dog, but she will be a fantastic snuggle buddy or work-from-home companion! She cannot go into a home with either kids or other animals. She will chase cats and children make her nervous.

Minnie is an older lady, and has been diagnosed with arthritis and hip dysplasia by our vets. As a result she is a little stiff, and will need to be on medications to manage her pain for the foreseeable future. That being said, the regimen that she is on at the moment is working quite well for her and she doesn't have any trouble getting around or up and down stairs. We recommend that she go to a home without any other pets (although she does get along with other dogs) so that she isn't at risk of hurting herself while playing. Does Minnie sound like the sweet soulmate that you've been searching for?

Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet Minnie. You can also submit an application online if you would like to save some time when you come visit. While we do welcome online applications, in person meets have top priority.

More about this shelter

Our Mission:

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its 36 branches located around BC and its provincial office in Vancouver, the BC SPCA provides a wide range of services for more than 53,000 homeless, abused, and abandoned animals around the province. The BC SPCA was created under the auspices of the provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and is the only animal welfare organization in BC which has the authority to enforce laws relating to animal cruelty and to prepare cases for Crown Counsel for the prosecution of individuals who inflict suffering on animals.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
