My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Opal aka Barksheba Von Wigglebutt

Breed: Labrador Retriever/Pitbull Terrier Mix

Sex/Age/Weight: Female/2yrs old/55lbs

Vetting: Up to date on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and receiving treatment for heartworms. FAR will continue treatment until I am heartworm negative.

House trained/Crate trained: Yes/Yes.

Children- Yes, please!

Dogs, Cats, and Other animals: I do well with proper and appropriate introduction.

Energy Level: Matches energy level of animals and humans around her. Easily redirected and corrected. *Remember body language is primary means of communication.

Things I like: Cuddling, running, playing with toys and balls, cuddles, hanging out, gardening, cuddling, sun bathing, cuddles, crazy birds and squirrels that I can chase around the yard, more cuddles, chew bones, and did I mention cuddling?

Things I don't like: Not being able to cuddle, aka when you want "personal space". Ewwwww that sounds terrible!

Things that make my humans happy: How loving and happy she is. Opal is seriously a very happy girl with a very wiggly butt!

Special Notes: I'm 100% deaf. Though many people question how good life can be for a deaf dog - I assure you that it is AWESOME! Order all the Doordash and Amazon stuff you want, I don't care about the doorbell! Your questionable choices in music....I don't mind at all as long as I get to cuddle! Clean freak? Vacuum all you want - I'll take a nap! I am learning American Sign Language (eye contact required): "No", "Off", "Backup", "Treat/Eat", "crate", "come", "stop"

If you are interested in giving Opal a forever home, please visit the link below to fill out an application! http://fureverafterrescue.org/adoption-application.html It is best to submit an application through a computer. We have experienced some problems when applications have been submitted using a mobile device. *When you submit the application, you are not obligated to adopt however it does reserve for you the opportunity to adopt that particular animal. We review them on a first come first served basis. If your application is approved, we will contact you and allow you the opportunity to adopt. If you choose not to adopt, we will contact the next approved applicant. If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact us and we will be glad to help!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the potential adopter filling out an adoption application. In the application, you can specify a particular dog in which you are interested, or let us know what type of pet in which you are looking, so we can find the perfect animal to fit your family and your needs. Once the application is received, a board member will review the application, and make contact with the potential adopter within 48 hours. This initial contact may include further questions/more information, or may include scheduling a meet and greet for you to meet the animal in which you are interested! Once the application is approved or the meet and greet goes well, then the adoption can be finalized. To finalize the adoption, an adoption agreement must be completed, the adoption fee paid (we accept cash, paypal, or credit/debit card), and then the potential adopter can take their new family member home with them or schedule pick up of their furry family member! The adoption fee varies based on the dog or puppy you are interested in. Some of the adoption fees have been listed on the individual dog's description but if you do not see one then please reach out and we would be happy to talk to you about it! If you are interested in any of our animals, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!!

Go meet their pets

We hold adoption events some Saturdays at various locations around middle GA from 11 am-3 pm. Check our Facebook page for updates on Events! We are also able to arrange meet and greets for local adopters!

More about this rescue

Furever After Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a no-kill, foster-based rescue devoted to finding homes for animals needing a loving home. Most of our animals come from local, high-kill shelters with some occasionally coming from bad situations and owner surrender. Our animals are immediately placed in foster homes where they learn love and are taught how to live in a home environment. All of our animals are up-to-date on their age-appropriate vetting needs and are tested for personality traits as best as possible. We have many wonderful pets looking for forever homes!
