Little Mavis was whisked to safety by NorthStar on her final day at a Texas kill shelter! She is now in a loving foster home where she is learning what it's like to be loved. Mavis is 14 years old and weighs about 8 pounds. Mavis does get along with both cats and dogs.
Foster mom says Mavis is 95% housebroken as long as she has lots of opportunities to go outside - only accidents are overnight - she doesn’t make noise when she gets up so I never hear her walking around.
Best way to describe Mavis is that she is affectionate from a distance. She always wants to be close by but is still learning how to accept attention. She likes to be held for very short periods of them, then she wants to be put down. She prefers being on a bed on the floor - she still doesn’t know what to do if I put her on my lap.
Mavis is slowly getting better at accepting attention from people she doesn’t know but her new family will need to be patient with her. She is not grumpy unless you try to touch her before she’s ready. Foster mom can pet her anytime - in fact, she looks for attention from her. But she wasn’t always like that. I honestly believe she was never shown kindness before - so she tends to be super skeptical until you prove otherwise.
Mavis should not be placed in a home with young kids. Older, respectful ones who know not to touch her would be okay. She will be looking for people who have the patience to win her over & who will love her.
Mavis is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this senior girl is $250.
If you're interested in meeting this little senior gal, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for her by name, MAVIS TX!
