COURTESY POSTING - NOT A TCWN DOG
Hi, I'm Hopper! My name comes from my impressive ability to hop, especially into laps. I absolutely love snuggling up in laps, particularly women's laps, though some guys are pretty great too. Did I mention I adore kids? I LOVE KIDS! Playing with other dogs, especially those my size, is a blast, and I'm really good with cats—I've learned to respect their speed and claws. Parks, laps, hugs, and just being with people make me the happiest.
The Challenges
Hopper is a sensitive soul with a history of trauma that has made him wary of some men, loud noises like traffic, and chaotic environments. His fears are deeply ingrained, and he will need time and patience to feel truly secure. Hopper also struggles with separation anxiety. He tends to bark when left alone, though he isn’t destructive. This anxiety can be tough for him.
What Fear Looks Like for Hopper
When Hopper is scared, he might slink away or act as if he’s about to be hit, cowering at sudden noises or movements. He sometimes retreats into a fear-based response, seeking safe spots like under a coffee table or in his kennel.
How to Help Hopper Manage His Fears
â Treats in his kennel
â Holding him and scratching his butt
â Engaging him in play with toys
â Taking him outside to play chase
We've made progress with crate training, and Hopper feels secure in his crate or kennel during fearful moments.
Hopper’s Ideal Home
I've cared for Hopper for almost two years, but he struggles to overcome his fears with a primarily male caregiver. He would thrive in a home with a female caregiver, kids, and other dogs. He loves small children and women. Currently, he's with dear friends who have taken care of him over the past two years. He’s doing well in their busy home with Amy, his favorite, and enjoys playing with their cat Roxy and two German Shepherds. The lively household and presence of more people help him feel less startled. When he needs a break, he retreats to the couch or his kennel.
Hopper is looking for a loving, patient home where he can continue to feel safe and loved. If you think you could be the perfect match for him, he’s ready to hop into your life and heart! Hopper’s rehoming comes with a complimentary 2-hour integration session with certified dog trainer Kim Silver from Building Bonds.
