My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Penny started a new life`s journey last June after being confined largely indoors for a couple of years. As a result she grew to a super size frame and became a little afraid of the outside world. Thanks to the efforts of a wonderful foster couple who have been her fitness and life coach, she`s been lead on a journey that started with weight loss goals and reintroduced her with the outside world. Now she`s on a roll! She follows her dog `siblings` in and out of the house and you would never know she was once afraid...and best of all, she`s lost over 25 lbs. Going outside is fun, and she`s loving life, she`s healthy, house trained and ready to experience all life has to offer. Reach out to inquire about Penny joining your family. Got weight loss goals? She`s show you how it`s done! Her care while in foster is being managed by ClassicCaninesATX with full medical records available for her adoption and there`s never an adoption fee. Just bring a comfortable loving home.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
