*I have an adoption pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. *
Yvie is about as perfect a dog as you could hope to find! She is a beautiful, loving, well-trained Black Labrador Retriever, 8 years old and weighing 65 lbs. She has been lovingly cared for her whole life. You can just see her sweetness as she looks up at her current Mom in her picture below. Unfortunately, Yvie must find a new family to love her because her family is being transferred to another country for work purposes, and they are not allowed to bring Yvie along. They are heartbroken to leave her behind and asked Sunshine to help her find a home with humans who will love her and treat her kindly.
Yvie is calm and good natured. She gets along fine with other dogs and is submissive toward them. She adores humans, having helped to raise three young boys, and she gets along great with cats. Yvie greeted our volunteer with a wagging tail and a welcoming smile, and immediately loved being petted. She is accustomed to a daily leash walk, and she walked nicely on leash, staying right by our volunteer's side. Yvie also enjoys spending time in the yard with her owner. She likes car rides and she settles on the floor in front of the passenger seat--her choice. If left alone at home, she does fine and has never been crated. While she loves being brushed and groomed and is fine being bathed, she is not a fan of swimming, which her owner noted as she does not venture into their pool.
Yvie is bilingual and understands both French and English! This well-trained Lab knows, in both languages: sit, down, stay, come, place, touch, and get busy!
Yvie's coat is shiny and pure black. A beautiful Black Lab, her pictures do not do her justice! She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, and takes no medicine. She is in New England and is ready to meet you. Yvie truly is a treasure who will be a wonderful companion with her sweet, affectionate disposition.
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun.

Black Dog Syndrome
Since the early 2000’s, animal rescue workers have noticed an increasing phenomena called, “Black Dog Syndrome,” which is that black dogs tend to be adopted more slowly than dogs of other coloring. As a result, there are more black dogs in shelters, and black dogs have a higher euthanization rate – purely because of the color of their coat! In a recent survey done by an adoption website, member shelters and rescue groups reported that most pets are listed for 12.5 weeks, whereas, less-adoptable pets (such as black, senior, and special needs pets) spend almost four times as long on the website.
You may ask, "what does this have to do with a Golden Retriever rescue?" Our rescue often goes a step further than basic rescue, by taking in dogs that might be thought of as “less adoptable” because of their physical condition. We have expanded that to include these special black dogs, many often thought to be Golden mixes. Since doing so, we have seen an overwhelming interest in these dogs and note that we begin receiving inquiries about them as son as we publish their pictures on our website! Like all of our dogs, these pups are just looking for a family that can see beyond their coloring to their true “golden heartedness,” and to love them and make them their own! Those who can, will be glad they did!

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
