Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Gidget needs:
-Someone home a lot during the day
-Adult home or one with children over 8 years old
-Someone willing to continue monitoring my food intake and helping me get some weight off by going for walks
-No apartments or condos
Hi, my name is Gidget. I am a female Chihuahua at about 9 years old, weighing 12.7 pounds. I am a sweet girl who loves attention, cuddles, and being with my people. I am very vocal and use my voice frequently, whether it is to let you know that I am happy to see the leash and know that we are going for a walk, or that you left me and I was not happy about it. For this reason, I am not a good candidate for an apartment or attached housing. I get along well with other small dogs and cats. I have lived with dog companions most of my life so I would enjoy having a fur buddy to keep me company when you need to go out. I am shy around new people, but warm up quickly once they pet me.
I am doing well with my housetraining in my foster home as long as I am taken out on a routine of about 4-5 times a day. I walk well on a leash and love to go for short walks. Again, I like to use my voice and will frequently bark during walks and especially if we meet another person or dog. I enjoy going out in the secure fenced yard to romp, roll in the grass, and lie in the sun. When my foster mom tells me that it is time for bed, I go straight in my kennel beside her bed to sleep. Of course I would prefer to sleep in the bed with my foster parents, burrowed under the covers. In the evenings, my favorite spot is burrowed under a blanket on the couch beside my foster parents. I love to eat, but since I am overweight, I am on a diet to get about 4 pounds off. I am currently on Science Diet Perfect Weight (this can be found at most pet supply stores) and my kibbles are being measured. If you adopt me, you will need to continue my diet and help me to get to a healthy weight.
I do not travel well in a car. I get very anxious and shake and whine/cry during the whole trip. My anxiety also continued while at the vet and I was very melodramatic getting my nails trimmed and my blood drawn. (I was not a biter, just whined and cried). During my exam, I was found to have a grade 3 luxating patella on my right hind leg. It is currently not causing me any issues, but this is another reason to get my weight down so there is less stress on that knee. I also had bad dental disease and had to have 18 teeth extracted (I have 12 left). Along with the dental, I was also spayed so there was much drama to be had for the 2 days after.
I am current on my vaccines and heartworm/flea prevention and am microchipped. I will do best in a home with adults and children over 8 years and with someone who is home most of the day. My adoption fee is $100.
