My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In the spring of 2023, Kiska was hit by a car near her home in Alaska. She was completely paralyzed on her back legs, and her family lived over 120 miles from a specialist. With limited resources available and issues with time commitments, her family surrendered her to a rescue that worked with special
needs dogs in Chandler, Arizona. Little did they know, they had sent their little girl off into the worst nightmare of a situation.

At a time when Kiska desperately needed medical care and treatment, she instead sat in a home with 55 other special needs dogs who had little to no access to food and water, let alone any semblance of attention and love. And because of her hit-by-car accident, Kiska was incontinent, like many of the other animals in the home. Tragically, she [and they] sat in soiled diapers for days on end. Finally discovered one month after Kiska's arrival, the founder of the "rescue" fell under investigation for animal cruelty and neglect by the Chandler Police Department. Kiska and 54 other dogs were pulled from the home and taken into custody by the Arizona Humane Society. Sadly, many dogs were found deceased, and the rest were in horrible conditions. Those who were saved from the hoarding hell-house became known as the Chandler55.

Thankfully, Kiska survived the gross neglect, and she was released from the
custody of the Arizona Humane Society into the home of one of our volunteers. She received the medical care she needed to get on the proper road to recovery. She improved so much that she even started to walk on her own without her wheelchair! Kiska continues to make daily improvements, and what remains incredibly inspiring is her never-ending happiness, zest for life and pure love that pours from her sweet spirit.

Now that Kiska is so stable, healthy and making huge strides by the day, we are looking for a foster-to-adopt home for her -- the forever kind of home that will love, cherish and care for her for all her many years to come. A home that has experience with dogs in wheelchairs and incontinence would be wonderful but is not a requirement as our medical team is confident that Kiska could fully recover from her injuries over time. Kiska is currently in a foster home with other dogs her size and smaller. We believe having other fur siblings will help her rehabilitate faster. She is young, playful and has so much pep in her step. She loves to go on walks and would also love a big backyard to run and roll in.

During the foster period, our rescue will cover all continued medical care until we deem her fully ready to be adopted. Her adoption fee will include her completed exams, completed physical therapy, vaccines, microchip and spay. You will also have our ongoing support as we work together to give Kiska the most beautiful second chance at the life she has always deserved! Additional adoption info

We are going to be highly selective about who adopts our dogs. Our adoption agreements have extensive guidelines and requirements regarding the care and handling of our dog from the time of adoption through the rest of the pet's life. If we do not feel that the home is a perfect fit for our dog or if we are not confident the potential adopters are capable of upholding our strict care guidelines, we will not adopt our dog to them.
