Atlas is a bully mix, is 1yr & 3mos old, weighs 65lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped. Atlas's guardian adds:
"Atlas is a fun and friendly dog. He loves to go on walks, play tug, and practice his obedience training. Out in the yard he may play fetch - after checking the perimeter to keep you safe from squirrels and bunnies! After some exercise he is happy to settle down and chew a Nylabone or snuggle with his people. He is equally happy at home on your couch or in his crate. But he is very sociable without being a pest, so if you would like company at a dog-friendly cafe or other outing, he would much rather come along for the fun!Atlas observes routines and learns very quickly, so he adapts to new environments well. He would love to continue attending a doggy daycare or training classes so he can show off his smarts and continue his good manners with other dogs.Atlas is either loose in the house during the day, or in his crate, depending on what we are doing. At night, he sleeps in his room in a portion of the basement so the cats can be loose in the house at night. He's fine during car rides, as he's excited at first but will settle in the back seat or in the back of an SUV. Atlas has been attending a day training daycare at Leash Free Living in Millersville MD. He knows all basic obedience, will sit and wait for food or to go through doors. He is a very quick learner and takes correction well. He is working on loose leash walking using a prong collar. Atlas is currently eating Purina Sensitive Stomach and Skin kibble - salmon based. Bullies tend toward allergies and chicken allergies, so we started him on this to prevent any issues."
Atlas's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him:
"Atlas is a perfect boy in all ways but one - he cannot live with cats or other small animals. He came to BARCS as a stray, so his background with cats was unknown. We, along with a trainer, have determined that his prey drive is too strong to live with our cats."
Atlas's guardian offers a brief a medical history:
"Atlas was on anxiety meds at the BARCS shelter, but once he went to a foster and then to us, he has not needed them."
Atlas's guardian states the following regarding children: Since Atlas hasn't lived with or otherwise been around children, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating...
"He has not interacted with children that we have seen, but based on his size, strength and young energy, I think he would be a bit too much for kids."
Atlas's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Atlas has lived with dogs, so his guardian recommends his living with dogs, stating...
"Atlas is good with dogs his own size and strength. He is not reactive. He should not be a dog park dog because he needs proper introductions, but he is fine out and about for walks, restaurant patios, etc where other dogs are. He also works well in his training and play group at Leash Free Living."
Atlas's guardian states the following regarding cats: Although Atlas lives with cats, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "No cats. Strong prey drive. He fixates on them and shows signs of stalking".
Atlas's guardian describes him as:
Playful
Friendly
Likes to be touched
Affectionate
House-Trained
Crate-Trained
Likes men
Likes women
Atlas's guardian describes his ideal future home:
"Atlas would be fine as an only dog, but he also enjoys having a playmate of his own size and 'rough and rowdy' play style. A fenced yard where he can wander and run would be best. He needs a good play session or long walk a few times a day, but otherwise is quiet and settled in the house. He is still young, so he needs to burn that puppyish energy! Atlas needs an experienced owner who can provide structure, routine, and exercise as well as reinforce the great start he has in training."
