My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are still looking for Judd's new family. If you applied for him and still interested in adopting please respond to our volunteers request to schedule your home visit.

UPDATE on Judd:

Judd is a great dog with a LOT of energy, and has adjusted beautifully to his foster home. Due to the attention and exercise demands typical of a GSP his age, he will likely do very well with an active family who can keep up with him, and perhaps another dog. He has had limited exposure to children, When around them, has been calm and gentle around kids of all ages, and has not tried to jump on them.

He has been great with both people and dogs both in public and at home. Sometimes he is so excited that he will attempt to jump to greet a person, but we have been working on that and it has become less frequent.  He is not fazed by automobile traffic or other urban noises.

At home, he will settle in after a good walk and sits/lies in his favorite spot, which is at the window watching for people and critters. When people visit or when he hears noises outside, he is very attentive but does not bark!

Judd has no resource guarding issues, and will allow you to clip his toenails, check his ears, nose, mouth, legs. When overly excited, he might nip at your hand, though that behavior has been curtailed as he is given the exercise and attention he needs.

Judd has blossomed into a very affectionate and trusting dog. For the first few days he was understandably unsure and confused, but has gained confidence and has settled in very nicely to the daily routines.  He is a very good boy and a beautiful specimen of a German Shorthaired Pointer. His youth makes him somewhat needy and unrefined, but with the right adopter who understands the breed and his needs, he could be someone’s dream dog.

Judd is a great dog with a LOT of energy, and he would do well with more than one adult (mostly due to the attention and exercise demands), and perhaps another dog.

With his limited exposure to kids, he has been  gentle and calm.

He seems to really like men, and doesn’t have an aversion to any people he has met on walks. In fact, he will seek out contact with people along the way by walking toward them when they pass by.
He goes on three walks a day, to the lake, river, and various parks, and he seems to love it! He was afraid of the lake waves, but with more exposure he can get over that with some gentle encouragement.

He is not fazed by automobile traffic or other urban noises, though he has been scared of flags flapping in the wind, statues, and other things that I think he just isn’t used to. He has already overcome his caution on the flag and the statues, so gentle exposure is all he needs.

At his vet appointment, he was calm and showed no signs of fear or pain with his vaccination updates. He did cry as his anal glands were expressed, but recovered nicely once that was done.

He could be a good hunter, though his foster is not necessarily equipped to judge, other than seeing his drive in the yard and constant lookout for anything flying or moving.

His foster has seen him blossom into a very affectionate and trusting dog. For the first few days he was understandably unsure and confused, but has gained confidence in his short time with them.

He is a very good boy and a beautiful specimen of a German Shorthaired Pointer. His youth makes him somewhat needy and unrefined, but with the right adopter who understands his needs, he could be someone’s dream dog.

Additional adoption info

Adoptions are simple, we match the dog to the family and the family to the dog. Our Adoption process contains the following steps:
1. Complete our adoption application.
2. WGSPR will review your application and follow up with you via email or phone.
3. WGSPR will conduct a veterinary reference check and background check.
4. A WGSPR volunteer will contact you to set up a home visit.
5. WGSPR will determine and notify you if you are approved. If you are not approved, we will provide you with the reason we are not willing to allow you to adopt from us.
6. WGSPR will put you in contact with the foster family to further discuss the GSP that you are interested in.
If you, as the applicant would like to continue in the adoption process, a Meet and Greet is set up with the foster family. WGSPR does require you, as the potential adopter, to travel to the foster home for the meet and greet.
7. WGSPR foster families have the FINAL decision on the family that will adopt the GSP rescue.
NOTE: Considerations include application, home visit, meet and greet and overall best fit and safety considerations for the GSP rescue.
WGSPR matches you with the perfect GSP we have in rescue as your lifelong companion.
NOTE: The length of time the adoption approval process can vary and is dependent on the schedules and availability of our volunteers and the applicant(s). We ask that you please be patient through this process.
Considerations

1. WGSPR follows National GSP Breed Rescue Protocols.
2. WGSPR does not hold dogs. If you are interested in a particular GSP, you should arrange to meet that dog as soon as possible following approval.
3. WGSPR is unable to ship our GSPs to other states.
4. WGSPR cannot promise any of our GSPs are hunters.

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees* are:

$375.00 GSPs under a year old

$300.00 adult GSP

$200.00 Seniors 8 years and older

We are unable to accept "payment plans," nor are we able to accept credit cards. If you write us a check, we ask that you please ensure you have sufficient funds!

Your adoption fee pays for the next GSP saved.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Since all of our GSPs are in foster homes, we do require an approved adopter to travel to the foster home for the meet and greet.

WGSPR also participates in monthly shows and expos where you can meet some of our adoptable dogs. Please watch our website at https://www.wgspr.com/ or our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/WGSPR-Wisconsin-German-Shorthaired-Pointer-Rescue-License-403447-141240896814/

More about this rescue

Wisconsin German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue (WGSPR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization covering the state of Wisconsin. We save GSPs from shelters, humane societies, and owner surrenders. Our rescued dogs are placed into foster homes to be loved, nurtured, trained and in some cases nursed back to health while we find the perfect permanent home and loving family for them.

The mission of WGSPR is to provide the general public with knowledge of our breed, offer fully vetted, rescued, purebred GSPs for adoption, with a life-time follow-up and return policy for all of our adopted GSPs.
