My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our adoption process can be found on our website here: www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process

Hello there, I'm Sweet Caroline, a brave and independent rat. I've got a sharp mind and a knack for solving puzzles. My best friend, Sweet Home Alabama, and I love to play and explore together. Did I mention I'm a mom too? Yes, I've raised 11 adorable babies with all the love in the world. Life is a beautiful journey of learning and love for me, and I'm ready to share it with you. Adopting me means adding a little adventurer to your home who is full of life, love, and courage. I'm ready to be a part of your family, are you ready for me?

________________________________________________________________________________

Estimated birth date: 5/15/23

Personality: Aggressive (lunges, bites, etc), Hesitant, Quiet, Very shy (you are unable to touch this animal without it running away or being fearful, etc)

Favorite treats: Dried mealworms, Churu

Current Diet: Oxbow Essentials Mouse & Young Rat Food, Oxbow Essentials Adult Rat Food, Mix of oxbow and a homemade shunamite-style mix

Favorite toys and activities: Will be updated soon!

Potty trained: We're working on it!

This animal’s daily routine: Sweet Caroline's foster scatter feeds the rats twice a day so they can forage for their food, and in the evenings they free roam before dinner is put in the cage to coax them all back inside

BFF (Does this animal have or need a friend of the same species in their home?): Sweet Home Alabama & Sweet Caroline (Bum Bum Bum) are a bonded pair and must be adopted together.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Dog-nervous

Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? None

Health concerns: Ongoing mild respiratory issues. Mostly sneezing, but her previous foster had her on antibiotics at two different points for upper respiratory infections.

Behavioral concerns: Sweet Caroline is in our trust training program due to being nervous and unsure of people. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training.

Update 8/26: Right now we’re working on hands not being scary. She likes treats and can be coaxed to take them but sometimes she will sniff the treat, then decide to ignore it in favor of veeeery slowly putting her teeth on my finger and getting ready to bite. It’s not perfect but better than just lunging in and biting!

Other notes: She is shy around her foster/people, but not around other rats! I think she and her sister would be great additions to an established group. They were both reintroduced to my other foster rat groups, their babies who had been weaned over a month prior, and are very playful and love chasing and snuggling.

Sweet Home Alabama & Sweet Caroline (Bum Bum Bum) came to MNPPR when their previous owner was no longer able to keep up with care.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. This animal's foster parent prefers to meet at the Maple Grove PetSmart - 11200 Fountains Dr, Maple Grove, MN 55369 for meet & greets, & adoptions.

Fee: Sweet Home Alabama & Sweet Caroline (Bum Bum Bum) have a combined adoption fee of $35

We absolutely DO NOT SHIP ANIMALS! Please do not ask.

Sweet Caroline's care while in rescue has not yet been sponsored.
