Hi I'm Tux,

Good with kids: I love everyone but I am a big boy and I have a lot of energy, so I might be a lot for younger kids

Hi I'm Tux,

I'm a big guy likely lab/shepherd type cross. There are currently 3 farm cats at my place - I don't notice them and they keep to themselves too. I love other dogs and currently live with a Foster Sister and love her a lot, and would be happy to play, play, play all day long. I'm still young (likely under 2) and learning so do try to remember my manners. I get so excited sometimes though and forget. We are working on that. I'm a very smart boy that loves to learn. I would love a home that can teach me many things, I react really well to hand signals. I am an active guy so a home where I can get lots of exercise both physically and mentally would be awesome. A canine companion would be great too! My foster mom says that I really am a loyal pup who wants to spend as much time with my people, and my foster sister, as I can. I do not bark unless someone or something comes into the yard, and I wait for you to let me know that it is okay that they are there, then I just lick them a lot. I am a lap dog and would love to cuddle with you as much as possible when we aren't doing our exercises. I am currently on an acreage and have a lot of room to run and play, this would suit me best. I also come running back to the house when my mom calls me, so far - every time! I run even faster if I think a treat or food is involved - I really really ... really like food. I know my basic commands such as sit and lay down, come, and no. I know when it is bedtime and will want to cuddle with you if that is okay, if not, I like cuddling with my foster sister. My current foster mom hasn't had to put me in a crate when she has to go to work, but I have used them before and am okay in them. When I am in the house, I do not have accidents and will let you know when I need to go outside.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All adoptions begin with an adoption application, available here or on our website (or from one of our wonderful volunteers in person). The application is reviewed by the adoptable animal's foster home as well as by the appropriate coordinator (canine/feline) to assess how the animal will fit in your home. We endeavour to respond to all applications within 72 hours, but being 100% run by volunteers sometimes we need additional time--if you haven't heard back after 72 hours, feel free to contact us to check in on your application.

Canine Adoption Fees:
$450 for puppies under 1 year of age
$375 for dogs over 1 year & under 7 years
$300 for dogs 7 years and older

Feline Adoption Fees:
$250 for kittens and cats up to 12 months old
$200 for cats between 1-6 years old
$150 for cats 6 years old and older

Adoption fees help offset the cost to our organization of providing full medical care (including spay or neuter surgery) to each animal we adopt to a furever home.

The Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (B.A.R.S.) was established in January 2010, and is dedicated to ensuring the humane treatment of all animals in the Town of Barrhead, the County of Barrhead and surrounding areas.

We provide a safe and nurturing environment for unwanted, abandoned, lost, and mistreated pets until they can be placed into loving homes. The Barrhead Animal Rescue Society is supported through private contributions.
