My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $50 in pledges to the rescue that pulls **

Smokey ACCT-A-102133 is a 6-year-old neutered male who originally came to the shelter in 2021 as a stray. Smokey was adopted on 2021 and unfortunately made his way back to the shelter in back in June of this year as a stray and was adopted again about a week later. Smokey came back the shelter on 7/26 as an owner surrender due to him biting and scratching the owner.

The owner described Smokey as "super sweet but would prefer to be in a quiet home with no other animals and assuming no kids. Medium energy, he does bite due to stress and I believe he is trying to spray. Has bit my roommate and her boyfriend along with me, he broke skin six times and bruised my leg, Yes, has bitten another animal, he chases after my other cat and bites his flank area and not in a playful way. Loves crinkle toys doesn't care for treats, would love a home with no other animals or children he is a sweet boy who loves head scratches.

Per staff on 9/10: Time to Adjust slip in kennel card. Smokey allows limited petting before starting to hiss and becoming tense.

Per staff on 9/2: Went to interact with Smokey, he immediately tried to reach through the bars to bat at me. Was clearly play, so I grabbed a pipe cleaner and he went to town! Definitely a cat that thinks it's okay to play with hands, so would recommend caution in the household and stress ways to drain cats energy. He was happy to play on his own. Didn't attempt to pet due to his happiness to just play on his own.

Medical Notes From Smokey's Previous Stay:

On 6/4 during an exam staff noted: "Gash on the head, possibly bit by a dog, per caller. Mild generalized calculus and gingivitis. ~1cm full thickness wound on temple above right eye with some circumferential pocketing, copious purulent discharge when scab was removed. No other wounds or lesions identified. Adult cat with wound above right eye. Otherwise appears to be in good health. Smokey was noted to be bright, alert and responsive.
