Tuck is a super intelligent, super sporty boy who is so excited to find his perfect match. He adores every human he's ever met, and he's pretty sure everyone exists to be his best friend. Even someone who was afraid of dogs told his foster after meeting him that "he's such a good friendly boy." Tuck also thinks that other dogs exist to be playmates for him, and he will play all day! He's met dogs of all sizes and ages and does especially well being a big brother to his foster family's litters of young puppies. His favorite thing to do is to pick up a stick or toy and prance around in front of the other pups with it, occasionally smacking them in the face with the item, so they give chase or start playing tug of war. He's been to doggy daycare and did great there too. He definitely doesn't have to have another dog in the home though; he loves having the extra attention from his foster mom and relaxing when he's the only foster pup in the house. He currently lives with two cats and they coexist, but he's a little too playful with them and would probably do best in a home without cats.
Tuck is also one of the most intelligent, trainable, athletic dogs we've ever had in the rescue. He is *incredibly* treat-motivated, so much so that he has walked headfirst into a tree because he was focused so intently on his person and their treats. He learned "shake" and "touch" in mere minutes, and of course knows "sit" and "down" as well. He's perfectly potty trained and will signal when he needs to go outside, and he goes potty right away which is a lifesaver in the cold weather. He's also perfectly quiet in his crate in the car or at home, and he sleeps through the night silently. Tuck has been introduced to agility equipment and was fearless with everything, including the teeter totter which he rode all the way to the ground on the first try, then hopped right back on to try again. His favorite piece of equipment was the dogwalk, which he strutted across multiple times all on his own, and he went right through the tunnels happily for a treat. Tuck has also been introduced to treibball (a herding sport) and disc, and he would be amazing at tricks and rally obedience.
Beyond his amazingness in terms of activity and sportiness, Tuck is also the best snugglebug you'll ever meet. His favorite way to end the day is cuddled up on the couch next to his people. He loves having his ears played with and massaged and will rest his head on your arm gently for more attention. When he's feeling silly he likes to lay his big ol head right on your head and act like he's going to sleep, and then stick his tongue in your ear to hear you make funny sounds.
Tuck is the BEST boy who deserves the best family. Could that be you, or someone you know? His foster mom can easily talk about him for hours, so fill out an application if you want to learn more!
Tuck is estimated to be 8 months old and 38 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

More about this rescue
Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.
We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.
This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
