We love when you can see the change in a dog from shelter to foster home, it makes such a huge difference! This is sweet gentle Dorothy We pulled her from a local rural shelter after she spent over two months deteriorating and being sick and stressed out. She is estimated to be about 8 years old and is a healthy 50 plus pounds. She has come a very long way since leaving the shelter as she was very underweight and had horrible skin, eye, and ear infections. Dorothy is a good old- fashioned mixed breed girl. This girl loves her toys or “her babies” as her foster dad calls them. She likes to take them everywhere she can. She's a great tag along buddy and enjoys a car ride or a nice long walk. Dorothy does well with every person she meets, including kids. However, she is best with slow introductions to new animals, but she is good with dogs once comfortable. She passed all dog tests at the shelter but had mixed feelings for the kitties so that will probably be a “no”’ Dorothy is a bit of an older gal but still has a lot of get up and go. She would enjoy a fenced in yard but would also do fine with daily walks. We believe she is doing well with leash walking. She is crate trained and now housebroken. She had a few accidents when settling in so that could happen again. Just need a patient person to show her what is expected of her. After over two months in a shelter, this is not unexpected, so she has adjusted well. Dorothy has been getting weekly baths for her skin and seems to do well on a diet with lamb and/or salmon as her main protein. She may need to continue with allergy meds and shots in a future home. A special diet could help. We have eliminated chicken. She loves to eat so sure she would love a home cooked diet. :) This sweet girl is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventatives. She gets attached to her person and can be a little protective. She will bark at new people who come to the home. Home visit, approved application, and an adoption donation of 100.00 is required. Dorothy is located in the Ocean Isle NC area.

More about this rescue
We are a 501c3 non profit in South Carolina. PLP was started in 2015. We are a 100% foster based rescue where all dogs are placed in loving homes until a forever home is found. We pull dogs from high kill shelters in North and South Carolina whose time are up. Many of our dogs are heartworm positive, scared, defeated, and broken. Many are very sick. Each dog gets extensive vet care; all ailments taken care of, spayed or neutered, chipped, and are given all vaccines. They learn house manners and crate training while in their foster home along with how to walk on a leash and socialization skills.
Many are different dogs when they are adopted than when they came to us.
