My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Need a feline purrrsonal assistant? Fred is perfect for the position!

Fred is an experienced 12-year-old cat who loves to be useful, whether that involves exploring your home to make sure everything is in place, running to greet you when you come home with groceries or flopping on your desk to keep you company when you are working from home! When it’s time to relax, Fred will join you for a nap or pass the time looking out the window. Fred’s foster parent notes that he even enjoys watching hockey games and nature shows on TV. And the real key to his heart? Freeze dried chicken treats!

  • Fred has previously lived with cats, but it is unknown if he enjoyed their company.
  • It is unknown how Fred would do with dogs.
  • An Admissions & Placement Specialist will be able to provide you information about Fred’s medical needs.
  • An Admissions & Placement Specialist can help with tips to set Fred up for success in your home!

*The ASPCA Adoption Center encourages a $150 suggested adoption fee when adopting an animal. This suggested adoption fee allows the ASPCA to continue our lifesaving work and help even more animals in need. We are grateful for any and all amounts given at the time of adoption.*

**The ASPCA is committed to prioritizing the health and safety of the community, the animals in our care and our staff, and we are keeping a close eye on developments related to the COVID-19 crisis as they evolve. As such, the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City is currently closed for in-person visitors. However, we are excited to offer remote adoptions using video conferencing! In-person meet-and-greets are also sometimes available or required for specific animals. Please check out our available cats and dogs above, and if one catches your eye, apply directly for him or her. An ASPCA Matchmaker will let you know if the animal you are interested in adopting is eligible for or requires an in-person meet-and-greet.

Please note: Adoption applications are handled in the order they are received and submitting an adoption survey does not constitute a hold or guaranteed adoption. You can expect to receive automated emails updating you on your adoption status as our Matchmakers go through applications. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you find your match!**

More about this shelter

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. Our organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, we are recognized as a national animal welfare organization. We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and proud to boast more than 1 million supporters across the country.
