My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HUNKY BUBBA ALERT
Meet Wasowski, the one eyed wonder. Wasowski came in as a stray with a seriously injured eye, badly hacked cropped ears, he was underweight and covered in scabs and open cuts. He was fortunate enough to end up where he did though, and the shelter worked to get him healthier and he even had surgery to remove his damaged eye. He became a shelter staff favorite, and even went to an all day event where he was one of the only dogs not kicked out for bad behavior.
Even with all his good boy behavior, Wasowski sat at the shelter for a couple months without an adopter. Then we laid eyes on him after heading down to try to empty some kennels and relieve some pressure for the shelter, we loaded him in our car, and a Swampie he became.
Wasowski is 7-8 years old, 65lbs and still has some pounds to put on. He is super social with people and dog friendly. With having only one eye, his depth perception is a little off. On top of that he has a “spot” (nothing bad- we checked) on his otherwise healthy eye, which hinders his eyesight some. He gets around no problems, but sometimes has to stop and take in his surroundings before moving forward. We occasionally run into a door when we are really excited and not paying attention to how far away it is and today we slowly creeped up to a spooky wet floor sign we couldn’t quite figure out. Wasowski is adorable though and as soon as he sniffs whatever odd shape is in front of him he gets goofy wiggley happy, which is really just his general state.
Wasowski was a champ at the vet today and wagged his tail the entire time. Our hunky bubba is looking for a foster or adopter to shower him with snuggles and not mind his happy drools. He is indeed a slobber puppy.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you adopt a dog from Swamp Haven, you’re not just saving a life. You’re beginning a journey filled with love, loyalty and trust. Life can be busy and stressful. The companionship of a dog is a constant reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things. At Swamp Haven, our mission isn’t to just help down-on-their-luck dogs find their forever homes. Our mission is to create a lasting relationship with you and your family.
Adopt happiness. Our adoption process is unique in that we work with you every step of the way to ensure that we’re placing the right dog with the right family. First, chat with us about what you’re looking for in a dog and we will set up a time for you to meet the lucky pup. From there, fill out an application. Once reviewed we set up a time to bring your potential pup to your house for a home visit and trial week. We want to make sure it’s the right fit for both your family and the dog involved. We will be totally available during the trial week for any questions or concerns. The last step is to finalize the adoption. And then congrats, you’re a new member of the Swamp Haven family and your happy tail has just begun!

Our adoption fee is $350

More about this rescue

Swamp Haven is an animal rescue organization that takes down-on-their-luck dogs and nurtures them back to a healthy mental and physical state, so they can find their forever home. Our goal is simple. We save innocent dogs that have been overlooked by society and provide short-term care including vetting (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and heartworm and flea prevention) and training to learn how to walk politely on a leash, play in a pack and live calmly and lovingly in their new home.
