My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We need your help sharing Wasowski far and wide!
We think of Waz as this easy going, hunky, confident dude. He loves attention, and obviously attaches himself to people. He looks to his person to check in as is if to say, “I’m being good right? This is what you want right?” Waz’s heart is truly as big as his head. He was a shelter staff fave, has gone on multiple adventures, we can bathe him, blow dry him - all the things - with no cares in the world, and he has been a doll in boarding. Unfortunately we didn’t think Waz would STILL be without a foster, and he needs someone to open their heart and home to him, as we are learning that Waz lacks confidence and comfortability just BEING IN A HOME. Is that not the saddest sentence ever?
Waz has had two weekend fosters and we were shocked to hear that Waz seemed anxious, unsettled, and restless. Both households had another dog that he did fine with but when they would bark, whether it was at a passing car or to try to get Waz to play, it would make him nervous and uncomfortable which then lead to him avoiding the dog in the house and sticking close by his persons side. He does not seem scared, just anxious and unsure of what to do with himself. Granted both of these experiences were less than 48hrs long and we know it takes more time than that for any dog to adjust.
We have no idea if Wasowski has ever been in a home, all we know was he was in obvious medical neglect when he got to the shelter. Even though he seems so confident and happy to us, he has some insecurities that a foster home would cure.
Waz needs a foster home willing to let him decompress and take the time to show him a home equals love, safety and relaxing. And who knows - the “time” It takes might not be very long at all, he just hasn’t had the opportunity to even try.
Waz is estimated 5 years old and 68lbs. Potty trained and non destructive so far and while he wouldn’t mind coexisting with a dog, energetic dogs stress him out, at least at this moment while he is adjusting. Waz loves toys, cuddles, and big wet sloppy kisses. Please consider fostering or adopting, and give this big lug a chance.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you adopt a dog from Swamp Haven, you’re not just saving a life. You’re beginning a journey filled with love, loyalty and trust. Life can be busy and stressful. The companionship of a dog is a constant reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things. At Swamp Haven, our mission isn’t to just help down-on-their-luck dogs find their forever homes. Our mission is to create a lasting relationship with you and your family.
Adopt happiness. Our adoption process is unique in that we work with you every step of the way to ensure that we’re placing the right dog with the right family. First, chat with us about what you’re looking for in a dog and we will set up a time for you to meet the lucky pup. From there, fill out an application. Once reviewed we set up a time to bring your potential pup to your house for a home visit and trial week. We want to make sure it’s the right fit for both your family and the dog involved. We will be totally available during the trial week for any questions or concerns. The last step is to finalize the adoption. And then congrats, you’re a new member of the Swamp Haven family and your happy tail has just begun!

Our adoption fee is $350

More about this rescue

Swamp Haven is an animal rescue organization that takes down-on-their-luck dogs and nurtures them back to a healthy mental and physical state, so they can find their forever home. Our goal is simple. We save innocent dogs that have been overlooked by society and provide short-term care including vetting (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and heartworm and flea prevention) and training to learn how to walk politely on a leash, play in a pack and live calmly and lovingly in their new home.
