My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

MITRE is part of the Tool litter who came south with his 4 litter mates from the Northern Ontario community of Sandy Lake. He’s had 2 sets of puppy vaccines, microchip and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no information on either his mother or father so his breeds and the size he’ll grow to be is just an educated guess. This handsome boy is one of the smallest boy in the litter but has a big personality. The word gentle was invented for this lovely boy as he’s the most gentlest little puppy ever born. He loves his snuggles with his foster mum and will literally put his arms on her shoulders to be cuddled. He also loves to snuggle up in her lap and has been known to sit there and watch the TV.

MITRE is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it all night. He will also go in there of his own accord during the day to take a nap. He loves to go on his walks and gets excited when he knows he’s going on one but like all puppies though, he’ll pull on his leash and run ahead of you. His housetraining is going really well and he’s taken outside first thing in the morning and after his meals and most of the time he’ll do his business then. There’s newspaper on the floor for him to use and he will if he’s not taken outside quick enough. This energetic little guy loves to play and chase his toys around and he really likes to chew on the rubbery toys and Nyla bones.
MITRE has several dogs in his foster home and he plays really well with them all. He would suit an home with another dog but he would also do well as an only pet. He did have several kittens in his foster home and he loved chasing them around but he was always very gentle with them. We do feel he’d do well with a dog savvy cat in the home but we do recommend a slow, monitored introduction. We do require children to be age 6 and up plus be gentle and caring towards animals. He does require a fenced yard to keep him safe when he’s outside playing.
MITRE is looking for an energetic family who can give him big walks and long hikes to help him burn off his puppy energy. He travels well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two. He really would suit most types of home but a quieter one would suit him best as he’s just a quiet boy himself. He’s very soft natured and now loves to play with the younger puppies in his foster home.
Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in the adoption fee and must be performed by 9 months of age or before he’s 60lbs (whichever comes first) and we need his adopter to also be in agreement with this as per our Rescue requirement. You can take him to your own vet and we will reimburse what we would’ve paid for the procedure at the SPCA but you are required to still have him neutered in the timeframe we require in order to get the reimbursement.

If MITRE sounds like a guy that will fit into your family then please complete the adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
