Otter is a 5 month old Dachshund mix who is otter-ly adorable and ready to meet you! Otter was saved from a kill shelter by a good citizen and then surrendered to DPS. He was very scared when he arrived at our doorstep but we promised him a brighter future. This young boy has lived a lot in his short life but we know his next chapters will be full of love! Otter weighs 20 pounds so he likely had a larger sized dad. We expect his adult weight to be around 30-35 pounds.

Otter is a quiet and loving puppy who is ready to blossom into a confident boy! If you are looking to help show a dog the meaning of unconditional love so you can receive it in return, this is your boy. Right now, the world is very big for a little dog like him, but his amazing foster has been exposing him to new things and he is very receptive. Otter is looking to find his one and only. He adores his foster mom and would follow her to the ends of the Earth. Once you gain his trust, you’ve got it forever. Then, he blossoms into a goofy, sweet puppy who is a total cuddlebug, curling up in laps for snuggles and kisses. Otter is learning to love toys and likes the soft plushies he can carry around. Otter loves a bone or teething chew toy and will gnaw away happily.

When Otter is with his canine foster sibling, he is a totally different dog! It has been amazing to watch him learn how to “dog” when he has another dog to learn from. Now, he is trotting out of his crate in the morning and exploring the yard like a total pro! He copies everything his foster sibling does and loves to zoom around the yard with her. He loves to sit with her and encourage her to play with him. He has even started to enjoy his walks as he can take his cues from his foster sister.

Otter sleeps through the night in his crate and wakes up at 7 AM. He heads right outside to potty with some motivation from his foster mom. He follows her back inside after he finishes and gets some snuggles and belly rubs. He has breakfast in his crate as his foster family gets ready for the day. Otter is still figuring out the world around him. He is growing in confidence every day and is learning how to “dog”. Otter gets dinner at 5 PM. In the evening, he cuddles and loves on his foster mom.

Otter is still figuring out walking and playing. He will need continued socialization and training to ensure he reaches a confident adulthood. He is doing well with potty training but does need some continued work.

Otter is an option for a foster-to-adopt trial period. He is only an option for those who have a resident dog, as he thrives in the presence of a confident canine sibling. Kids in the home should be over the age of 15.

More about this rescue

We are passionate folks who love dogs and love people! We strive to make the most appropriate match between human and canine. Because our dogs live in foster homes we know about their temperament and personality and therefore can help families and individuals decide if the dog is a good match or not. We are excited to help people find the right pooch for them and look forward to meeting great folks and welcoming them into the DPS Family.
