My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spencer is a super cute and lovable beagle/coonhound mix. He was surrendered by his previous owners because they had a change in their jobs and were not able to continue taking care of him.

Spencer is almost 5 years old and is 37 pounds. He is gentle, polite and calm, has good house manners, and is completely housebroken – no accidents. He is medium-low energy, which is fine because he can still do his favorite activity easily – sniff things. He loves to be outside and sniff things, and as a leash walker, is a slow, meandering sniffer.  Spencer would likely do best in a home with a securely fenced yard.

Spencer is a non-chewer (though he will occasionally gnaw on a toy or benebone) and is non-destructive, so your shoes are safe. He does not need to be crated, but is not afraid of going in the crate. Spencer likes other dogs, and gets along with the cat in the building that he sees sometimes, but has shown a prey drive toward squirrels. Spencer knows basic commands like come, sit, and stay; he is very food-motivated and loves training because treats are involved. He also will counter surf for food, so he needs a clean kitchen!

Spencer is great with touching, has silky-soft fur, and is becoming a cuddle bug; he likes to be near his people (on the bed or couch with them, etc.). He rides well in a car, usually laying down on the seat. He has been diagnosed with anxiety by the vet, which manifests itself in separation anxiety, where he barks for a few minutes when his people leave the house. He has been prescribed medication for his anxiety, which helps him stay calm, and he likes it best when his people are around and don’t leave him alone.

Spencer would love to meet you!
