Introducing Melanie: A Fearful, Energetic Pup Seeking a Patient Home
Meet Melanie! This 1.5-year-old bundle of energy is ready to find a home where she can feel safe, loved, and guided. Melanie is a member of the bully breed family and is known for her enthusiastic spirit, though she can be fearful in new situations. She needs a patient, experienced adopter who understands her unique needs and is ready to provide the structure and training she requires.
Melanie is very social with people, but her excitement can sometimes get the best of her, especially during greetings. While she absolutely loves attention, she can be a bit fearful in unfamiliar environments or around new people. Melanie is looking for a home where she can feel secure and receive the time and patience she needs to work through her fears.
Though Melanie has lived with other dogs, she does best with proper introductions, and a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs is required to ensure a good match. Unfortunately, Melanie is not suited for a home with cats, as she does not get along with them.
Training & Behavior Needs:
Melanie is an energetic girl who requires a strict enrichment schedule to help her thrive. She needs a family who can offer the consistency and structure she needs to become a well-adjusted dog. Here’s what you should know about her:
Leash Training: Melanie is very strong and pulls on the leash, so she will need some work on leash manners. She will benefit from consistent training and positive reinforcement to help her walk more calmly. Fear & Anxiety: Melanie can be fearful in new situations and around unfamiliar people. She will need a patient, understanding adopter who can provide her with the time and space to build confidence and overcome her fears. Excitability: While Melanie loves attention, she can sometimes get too excited, especially during greetings. With guidance and positive reinforcement, she can learn to be calmer and more controlled when meeting new people or dogs. Resource Guarding: Melanie does have some resource guarding tendencies that will require careful management. Her new family should be prepared to work with her using positive reinforcement techniques to ensure she feels secure. Dog Socialization: Melanie has lived with other dogs and does well with proper introductions. A meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home to ensure compatibility. Why Melanie?

We require potential adopters to fill out an pre-adoption application. If that application is approved, the dog/cat must be spayed/neutered before it leaves our shelter (if not already done). If it is a puppy under 4 months old, we allow it to go home with the adopters under a foster care agreement until it is old enough to be returned for spay/neuter. Kittens are allowed to leave before spay/neuter is done, but they must be done within a certain time frame.
Fees: Dogs/puppies range from $150-300, depending on if they came in already spayed/neutered or if we paid to have that done.
Cats range from $80 - $140, though we often have deals on older cats or cats that have been there a long time.
Kittens are $60 with $25 refunded once it has been spayed/neutered.
All adoptions include at least the first vaccination, deworming, de-fleaing, microchip ID, and 6 weeks of pet insurance.
