For Adopt a Pet and the PEDIGREE® brand, October is all about finding homes for dogs in shelters. Adopt this month for a PEDIGREE® Wet Food Pouch and a chance to win a Homecoming-style photo shoot and shelter donation.
It's hard to imagine a world without Maverick. He found himself on the euthanasia list after being rescued from a house fire in January with 12 other cats and dogs. He was a staff favorite at the shelter and it is so easy to see why. His foster family absolutely loves him. He's like a big teddy bear ready to crawl on the couch next to you or lay at your feet (he gets off furniture when asked), but always reaches out to put a paw on you to keep in contact. He is about 6 years old.
Maverick waits like a perfect gentleman until you release him to get his food. He has shared the house with his foster's other large dog and played the perfect host to a cat short term. His foster family does not have kids and none have visited but Maverick loves people and slow introductions would be best. He is house trained and could be kennel trained but he underwent a rear leg amputation and the kennel stressed him. He has not had any obedience training but is very smart and has learned some basic commands with his foster dog pal. He is not recall trained and will need to be on a leash any time he goes outside.
He loves to explore, go on car rides, and smell. He would love to lay outside in the sun for parts of the day so anyone who spends time outdoors or has a yard would get a partner. He'll sit down next to you and look up at you with the biggest and silliest smile. Don't be fooled by the rear leg amputation, Maverick doesn't let that stop him. He loves to go on short walks (walks well on leash but weaves with his new hopping motion) and run around the yard. If you're looking for a fun, lovable, goofy, and chill best friend for life, Maverick is your boy!
To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt It doesn't obligate you, but it is the first step. We don't get to all of the inquiries but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!
