Introducing Huckleberry and Muffin!
This father/daughter duo are NOT bonded (happy to be separate), but come from the same sad situation -- they, along with several other hounds, spent years living outside on a patch of dirt in someone's yard. They had no shelter, no clean water, and very little food. And yet, despite everything, you'll never meet a sweeter set of pups! Huckleberry and Muffin were deprived of love and affection their entire lives, and now they're making up for lost time. Huckleberry (M, hound, 10-yrs-old) is a gentle soul who just wants to lean up against you, gaze into your eyes, and enjoy all the pets and rubs you're willing to give. Muffin (F, hound, 1.5-yrs-old) is just as affectionate and loving as her dad, but with a little more bounce and goofiness. Huckleberry and Muffin radiate joy and gratitude. The strength of their spirits amaze us every day. They are both heartworm-positive, but Animal Aid will pay for their treatment, even after you bring them home (together or separately).
PLEASE -- SPREAD THE WORD, and come meet our amazing new guests any day between 9am and noon (including weekends and holidays), no appointment necessary.

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.

Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.

Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00.

Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:

0-20 lbs: 11 years
21-50: 10 years
51-90: 8 years
91+: 7 years

We are open 365 days a year from 9 AM - 12 PM! You can visit with any of our pups my coming to our shelter at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA 23666.

More about this shelter

The purpose of the Society shall be to provide to/and or for animals, other than man, shelter, medical aid, care and protection, to act as a placement agency for animals in good health, and to provide education for the humane care and treatment of animals, and to attempt to prevent cruelty to animals. We are a nonprofit organization that receives no funding from state or federal agencies. All of the funds required to maintain the shelter and care for the dogs come from donations and special fund-raising events. Donations to the shelter are tax deductible.

Our dogs are not euthanized for space. This means that new dogs can only be accepted by the shelter when we have an available kennel.

All of our dogs are:

Examined by a veterinarian
Receive medical care as needed
Current on vaccinations
Spayed or neutered
Regularly walked and exercised
Socialized and loved
Temperament tested
Microchipped
