My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In April, a rescuer found Huckleberry on a patch of dirt in a grassless yard with 13 other hounds.
Until then, the dogs had been fed twice per week (if you count dumping kibble on the ground as feeding), and their only water was in filthy containers, covered in green slime.
The hounds were sent to different fosters and shelters, and Animal Aid Society was fortunate enough to get 10-year-old Huckleberry and his one-year old daughter, Muffin!
Years of neglect had taken their toll on Huckleberry's body -- he was skinny, filthy, and scarred, with rotten teeth, and heartworm-positive.
Huckleberry's body was a mess, but his spirit?
His spirit is invincible.
His spirit soars.
Until recently, every human Huckleberry met had let him down in the worst possible way, but he still looks up at us with so much love and hope.
And, when looking up isn't enough, he stands and gently hugs us.
Huckleberry has a seemingly endless supply of love to give, even though he never got any.
He's so joyful when he sees us -- every part of him wags -- and he's beyond grateful for head scratches, belly rubs, or even a kind word.
GREAT NEWS -- Huckleberry completed his heartworm treatment last week! Soon, he can safely have the dental work he needs -- and Animal Aid will pay for that, even after you bring him home.
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST - after everything Huckleberry's been through, let's show him that he persevered and stayed positive for a reason!
And, no, Huckleberry and Muffin are NOT bonded. They will happily go their separate ways - but, if you want both, that'll work, too 🙂
Huckleberry is sure to raise your spirits! Come meet him any day between 9am and noon (including weekends and holidays) at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA, 23666.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

Additional adoption info

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.

Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.

Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00.

Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:
