My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cruz is a large, lovable, good-looking guy with fur so soft you will never want to stop petting him.  A true "Velcro" Mal, once you have earned his trust, he wants to be right beside his person, either outside on a walk or pushed up against you on the couch.

Cruz came into MAD Rescue with some issues that were obviously human taught.   While we are not sure of what abuse he survived, we know that this young guy has endured a less-than- ideal life. Cruz has a distrust of people, and needs extended time to decompress and gain trust with new people, at least a week to 10 days.  That said, he has made amazing strides with his current foster and is improving in all aspects, including trust, obedience and impulse control.

With proper introductions, Cruz has done very well with his foster family.  He engages in training, welcomes lots of loving pets, and settles in nicely for a cozy evening.  Cruz does require a home with an experienced handler that is breed savvy, confident owners who can appreciate the sensitivity he has acquired through past treatment to potential threats.  If he encounters a person who is not confident, he picks that up quickly and can act out in a loud and aggressive manner.  Therefore, he CANNOT go to a home with children except older, confident teenagers.

Cruz is well behaved in the home, with no destructive tendencies. He gets along well with other dogs, is crate trained and stays peaceful in his crate for extended periods.  He has encountered barn cats and shows some curiosity, but has not been inside the house with a cat.  Cruz has good basic obedience understanding and excellent recall as well. He is a delight to take on long walks!

Cruz is a wonderful dog when he is in an environment with solid structure, regular obedience training and fond, loving engagement from all occupants in the house.  Once a person has gained his trust, they will be treated to a highly intelligent, lovable dog who wants to be with his people, hang out, stretch out on their laps and get belly rubs.  In a home that understands the breed, and that has sensitivity to his past, Cruz can be the best partner anyone could ask for.  Again.... Experienced and dedicated handlers only. Also, No children in the home.

All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription.
