My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

---------My Story----------

I was born to be abandoned. Did you just do a double-take on that sentence? Don't worry, I would too but unfortunately that is my truth. My story is not one of rainbows and butterflies. It isn't one of love and compassion...at least it didn't used to be. You see, my owner...let's say...collected dogs. There were a bunch of us just out in the yard and our owner didn't really care for us all that well. Many of us were emaciated, some of the dogs would get into fights because there wasn't much space or resources to go around, and others started losing their fur and becoming quite malnourished. Being exposed to the elements day in and day out and little to no food will do that do a dog I guess. Life wasn't great, I will be honest. But it was one I was born into and despite all this, we were still all so loyal to our owner. We were always so excited when we saw our owner and wanted nothing more than to please our owner. So, you can imagine our confusion when our owner left one day and never came back. We waited and waited but our owner never came back. Finally, someone discovered us and alerted the city and now we had a new worry on our paws. We were at least getting food and water and some kind of interaction again....but we needed places to go. If we didn't have anywhere to go, we would have to be euthanized. The shelter in my city was almost nonexistent and did not have the space to take us in. Thankfully, some kind volunteers got involved and tried like crazy to get us out of that situation.

So, after being born to a family that didn't care whether I was there or not, or if I ate and drank, and left me to pretty much die...I was given a second chance. I was given the name Deputy and while my past was terrible....I am not going to let it define me. That is just a part of my story and it is time to close that chapter and start anew!

---------My Personality----------

In case you missed it, my name is Deputy. I am a 4-month-old, 16lb male Border Collie mix. I know that I still look like I am younger and I am wondering if part of that is because I was so malnourished from growth that I haven't had the chance to really grow and flourish. So, if I am about to hit an epic growth spurt...who knows. Given my breed, I still don't think I am going to be very big. Maybe I will get into the 40-50lb range? Time will tell I guess. I have a beautiful black and white coat and while some of it is thinned out due to malnutrition, I just know that it will soon start to come back in now that I am getting better nutrition and be just absolutely stunning!

My life hasn't always been so great, so when it comes to my outlook on life...I 100% believe in living life to the fullest. I feel like I missed out on so much, so I am always ready for any adventure that comes my way. I love being in the middle of whatever my foster family is doing and will happily follow them and the other dogs around. With me, you can bring on the adventures anytime/anyday, the hikes, the runs in the park—I'm game for anything that gets my tail wagging and my paws moving. Especially if it means I get to be with my people. I have discovered that I’m a water-loving pup, for sure! Whether it’s a puddle, a pool, or a lake, I’m diving in with a splash! Baths? Well, those are growing on me too. I LOVE toys! Squeaky ones, chewy ones, bouncy ones – you name it, I'm all over it. They’re my favorite way to pass the time (besides snuggling, of course). Did someone say something about fetch? Nah, that's not really my style. Why chase a ball when there are so many other fun things to do? But don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of other tricks up my furry sleeves to keep us entertained! I haven't been on any walks yet, but boy, am I excited to hit the pavement and sniff out all the new scents the world has to offer. Let's lace up those shoes and go on an adventure together! Hiking sounds like a blast! I may be a puppy, but I've got a curious spirit and a love for the great outdoors. Plus, with your guidance, I'll be the top dog on the trails in no time! I'm still learning the ropes when it comes to walking on a leash. But with a patient teacher like you, I know I'll master it in no time!

New people? Count me in! I'm a friendly pup who's always ready to shower new friends with tail wags, kisses, and lots of love. I'm a social pup who loves making new furry friends. When I see other dogs, my tail starts wagging, and I'm ready to play and have a paw-some time! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting any cats yet, so I'm not quite sure how I'd react. But with a gentle introduction and some patience, I'm sure we could become purr-fect pals! I adore kids, especially our 14-year-old human friend! I'm gentle, playful, and always up for some fun with the little ones. They bring out the best in me!

---------My House Manners----------

As much as I love having room to roam and play, an apartment might not be the best fit for me. I thrive with a bit more space to stretch my legs and explore. I'm still learning the ropes when it comes to potty training. With consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in no time! I must admit, I do enjoy a good chew session now and then. But with plenty of appropriate chew toys and guidance, I'm learning to keep my chewing to the right things! I'm a smart cookie, and I quickly figured out how to use the doggie door with the bigger pups. Easy peasy! I'm not a big barker, but I do like to express myself with the occasional bark. I'm more of a conversationalist than a noisy neighbor!

So, if you're looking for a social and furry companion who's eager to embrace an active lifestyle, ready to play with other dogs, charm your kids, and greet new people with a wagging tail and a big heart embark on exciting adventures with you, look no further—I'm your Deputy ready to be deputized into your loving family! 🐾🌲🌟
