Meet Sweetpea (aka Sweetie pie, Sweetie, Sweets), can you guess her personality by her monikers? That’s right! She is super sweet! Sweetie is the perfect combination of couch potato/snuggle bug and terrier adventurer. She loves walks and will sit so you can attach her leash. However, she is very reactive toward other dogs; barking and lunging until they are out of sight. She does not seem reactive toward people, bicycles, cars, etc, and she loves to chase, which is why we recommend a fenced in yard. She likes to chase lizards, birds, squirrels, possums, pretty much anything that moves. Sweetie is very smart and eager to please, and with proper training and commitment, she could learn to be less reactive on walks. She gets along well with her current foster siblings, but did not like two dogs who visited for two weeks. With positive reinforcement, she was able to tolerate them, but never fully accepted them. She would be happiest as your one and only, as she wants all the attention. Are you looking for a best friend who would keep you company indoors and out? Sweetie may be the dog for you!
Sweetpea is currently going through heartworm treatment. You will need to live within an hour of the St Petersburg/Clearwater area for her timely visits to our vet so she can finish her treatment. All expenses for the heartworm treatment will be paid for by VIP. Please note, while going through her treatment, she needs to “chill” and not be so active and she is not be permitted to run around much and will need short leash walks until she has completed her treatment and cleared by our Vet. This is very important for a successful treatment.
Sweetpea is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped and current on heartworm and flea prevention. Please visit www.viprescue.org to fill out an adoption application for this great girl!
Adoption Requirements: You must be a Florida resident, and be at least 25 years of age to adopt. To qualify for adoption, all of the pets in your home must be spayed or neutered, be current on all vaccines, preventatives, and have received consistent veterinary care. If you’ve had more than one Vet in the past 3 years, please provide all the names and number for each vet. This breed typically lives 14-18 years, so please keep that lifespan in mind, as your age should be appropriate for the pets estimated lifespan.
All of us at VIP Rescue are Volunteers, with families, jobs and pets of our own, so please be kind and patient. We select the most fitting application for the dog, not necessarily the timeliest adoption application. Please make sure to read the entire bio on the pet you’re interested in before applying to adopt to make sure you meet the pets needs. Thank you for thinking rescue.
