My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For inquiries email julia@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $500 Location: Washington, DC   Things to consider when applying to adopt Tanner: About 10 pounds Neutered, with up-to-date vaccines Would prefer a home without younger children (teenagers may be considered) Potty trained Dog selective - would need a tolerantand/or energetic dog as a playmate Not tested with cats Great leash manners Two training sessions from the Dog Wizard Chantilly are included for his adopters Food motivated and very smart. He knows "sit," "down," "place," "heel," "break," and "crate." Has a history of reactivity/guarding around men, but is working through it. Working on separation anxiety and crate training. High-energy and very playful, but has quiet moments when all he wants to do is curl up next to you on the couch (or better yet, on your lap). Would love running around in his own yard but is doing fine in his foster mom's apartment. Meet Tanner, a spunky little short-haired chihuahua mix(?) with a BIG personality. Though he is less than a year old, Tanner had a rough start in life and came to the rescue fearful and skittish, particularlyaround men and children. However, thanks to the amazing support of the 15/10 Foundation, we were able to place Tanner in an intensive 10-day training program to work through his more challenging behavioral issues. Since his training, Tanner has blossomed into the smart, silly, curious, playful pup we always knew he was. He still has some things to work on (what puppy doesn't?), but his training package includes two follow-up sessions with his eventual adopters to ease his transition into his forever home. He just can't wait for his family to fall in love with him! Apply NOW! Please visit our website www.compactcaninerescue.org to learn more about this amazing pet and see other adoptable dogs.

More about this rescue

The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.

Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!

Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
