My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Ricky was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement Team on 3/5/2024.

At SDHS:
Ricky has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is now ready for his new home!

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Ricky, a seasoned adult dog who thrives on independence. He's got a spirit that's both adventurous and self-reliant, making him an excellent companion for those who appreciate a canine friend with a bit of autonomy. Ricky's hobbies include investigating every nook and cranny of his environment, taking leisurely walks at his own pace, and mastering the art of napping in the sunniest spots. He's also a quick learner, always eager to pick up new tricks and commands. Despite his independent streak, Ricky has a heart full of love to give and is fiercely loyal to those he trusts. If you would like to meet Rickey, grab a leash and collar and head to our Escondido Campus.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
