💙 This handsome boy is Keno 💙
He was surrendered by his owner 3/22/24. We believe Keno probably lived outside in a pen his whole life.
He is very shy but Oh so sweet.....he is warming up little by little with our caring volunteers. He really loves when the other dogs come up to his kennel and say Hello!
Keno is positive first heartworm and Lyme disease. He needs a quiet home to go through treatment.
➖Keno was a little shy when he first came to the shelter but he is becoming more and more outgoing and confident everyday.
Keno is two years old and weighs about 60 pounds. Keno doesn’t show any reaction at other dog’s kennel gates.
➖He has really taken a liking to our sweet volunteer Kelly 🐾 This is how she described Keno:
“Keno is a very low maintenance boy! He loves scratches on the head and behind the ears. He is extremely sweet and lovable! He’s got the most beautiful eyes. He did good on the leash so we’re going to do some more leash training. He’s got so much potential, I believe he would be easy to train! He will truly be an amazing companion.”
➖ Sadly, Keno had never seen a vet before 😩. He tested positive for Heartworms and Lyme Disease. He needs a quiet home so he can begin his treatments. 🙏
➖Heartworms are treatable and Keno is young with many wonderful years ahead of him.
If you want a laidback companion to travel through life with, Keno is the perfect dog for you!

Bertie County, NC is located in very rural, Northeastern NC. Our county shelter is open admission; however it is small, and does not currently have public visiting hours. To visit a dog or cat for adoption, please contact us and we will happily meet you at the shelter for a meet-and-greet with your potential new family member. Our intake & adoptions vary day to day, so it is very possible we may have dogs &/or cats available for adoption that are not yet featured here.
We receive no government funding, and rely solely on donation & contributions. It is with the support of the public’s generosity that allows us to find loving, forever homes or obtain rescue for our county shelter residents. All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.
We are always looking for animal lovers to share their time and talent as dedicated volunteers. The opportunities range from helping to socialize/play with the animals for adoption at the shelter to helping transport shelter residents to the vet or rescue. If you are interested in volunteering, please do not hesitate to contact us at 252-325-3647. We look forward to hearing from you.
