BIO: It is with great pleasure that we introduce you to Mikey.   Mikey is a dog that it will take some time to get to know, but oh is he worth the effort!

Mikey was surrendered by his owner in South Carolina through no fault of his own.  Mikey is a wonderful dog!  He's almost perfect, except he gets very anxious if left alone.  He is also extremely guarded when he first meets strangers.  He is definitely the dog they had in mind when they developed the 3-3-3 rule (3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, 3 months to feel at home).  As a matter of fact, it was almost ten days before he let his foster dad pick him up!  Now that he has become comfortable in his new environment, he is a fantastic little dog.  He gets along with all other dogs, male or female.  He likes the companionship of other dogs and people that he has come to trust, so he'll do best with another small adult dog to keep him company.  His ideal home is one where his owners are retired and home most of the time.  A person who works at home would be wonderful.

He is fully house trained and does not look or act like a 12-year-old dog.  As a matter of fact, everyone at the vet thought he was six or seven years old.

Here are some items that Mikey needs to find that perfect home:

1) He tends to warm up to females more quickly that males, so a female is highly recommended but not required.  2) No apartments, townhomes, or shared walls.  His separation anxiety causes him to “sing the song of his people,” so single family homes.  3) No children.  Older kids would be fine, but he’s too skittish for small children.

Mikey is one of the sweetest fosters his foster dad has met.  He is fearful at first and it will take time to earn his trust.  Once you earn that trust though, he will be your best friend and constant companion.  Could you possibly be that lucky person to have Mikey in our house?

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.

Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All dogs are spayed/neutered/UTD on all shots/heartworm checked and treated if necessary and dental if necessary.
You do have to fill out an online adoption application at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org and we will do a phone interview, check your references and vet and we WILL DO a homevisit no matter what state you are in. To adopt a dachshund you must either have a fenced in yard. These are hunters and if you allow them to run free they will NOT come back or will be hit by a car or attacked by another dog. When you adopt the dog you are giving a two week trail period and if you feel you need more time we are happy to give that to you if you will notify us. We also make you sign a contract that is a legal and binding contract. Once you put in a application to adopt one of our fosters we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us in a week please e mail us as your app may have gotten lost. We also have the right to refuse to adopt to anyone that we feel would not make a good home for our Dachshunds. Please remember these dogs have been in at least 2-3 homes possible more and it could take the whole two weeks for them to adjust and possibly longer.

Go meet their pets

All of our dogs are in foster homes in TN, AL, NY, VA, PA, NC, SC, FL, MI and WI They can not be seen at any one place but all foster homes are happy to send you additional pictures or answer any questions you may have in regards to their fosters. We do not have any regular place that we go to to show off our dogs but if you are close to the foster home we will be glad to meet you somewhere to show you a or any dogs that you may be interested in once you fill out our online adoption application listed on our website.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit organization that rescues dachshunds from shelters, owner surrenders and fully vets them including dental and heartworm treated if needed and all health issues addressed before they are put on the website to be adopted. We do this due to the fact that there are so many Dachshunds out there that are bred and brought by people that don't know the breed and after they get the dog home and find out after a couple of months that they can't housebreak the dog and it's not good with their kids, they dump the dog in the shelters or if we are lucky they contacts us. Some Dachshund are not so lucky and get shifted to several homes or are sold to puppymills that bred them into the groud.
