My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PERSONALITY & BEHAVIORS
My name is River Run. I am a very sweet and chill girl. Even if I haven't met you before, I will let you pet me, put on my harness, take me for a walk, and will follow instructions. That's because I love and trust people. I really like to be near you, and if you let me, I will give you kisses and sit close to you.

My favorite home would be with someone who is home a lot and with a fenced yard. I like all kinds of toys and don't chew anything up! I especially love riding in a car, being brushed, and playing with other dogs. My finder has 7 dogs, and I as soon as I met them I happily played with all of them (from a Great Dane to the little ones) inside her home and in her fenced yard. So I would love to live with another dog or two! And I like kids. I'm a bit too interested in cats to live with them.

I don't need a crate because I understand that I shouldn't bother any of your belongings. I am house-trained and would like to go out about every 4 hours to potty. You can count on me sleeping through the night without a peep, so I won't wake you up.

My foster mom was so proud of me when we went to the IAR vet to get my vaccinations and other stuff. I concentrated on remaining very calm and didn't put up any objections (even though I was scared).

I am really smart, if I say so myself. I've already learned Sit, Come, Give Paw, Fetch, Down, and Hugs; and I can stand on my back legs, and I'm working on Down.

I can't wait to meet my new loving family! Could that be you?

HISTORY
I got lost in the woods in a rural county. I was wandering around and came into a clearing and was found by a Good Samaritan! She brought me to live in her house and kindly took good care of me until IAR found a foster mom for me!

HEALTH
I am up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. I will be spayed soon.

PHYSICAL
I have a smooth short brown coat flecked with black, black and white around my muzzle and on my ears, black eyebrows, amber eyes, white on my chest and toes, and a fluffy tail. Oh, and did you see my beautiful teeth?

Adoption Process

  • Fill out an adoption interest application HERE.

  • Our goal is finding lifelong, loving homes for our animals, so we try to find the best match between animal and adopter. We can help advise you on which animals to meet based on your situation.

  • You can meet some of our animals at our weekend adoption events, or we can arrange for a meeting in the foster home. If it’s a good match, the foster parent will come to visit your home in person. This is to make sure your home is safe and secure for a new companion animal.

  • Note: IAR makes every effort to please our adopters, but our first concern must be for the animal’s welfare. We reserve the right to deny any application.

More about this rescue

IAR started with one woman's big dreams, a bigger heart, and a very distinctive purple pickup truck that helped her rescue countless of unwanted, abused, and homeless Triangle pets. Originally founded in 1994, IAR earned an official 501(c)(3) status in 1995. We are governed by a Board of Directors, managed by elected officers, and introduced IAR’s first paid position, General Manager, in June 2021. This role will assist with elevating our collective compassion to new heights and strengthening IAR’s impact as a whole.

Our mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. We shall strive to help all animals in need through our service programs. We will serve our communities through promotion of spay/neuter for all companion animals, and the education of children and adults in humane care, respect and responsibility for animals on this earth.
