My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Berta and Burt are a delightful duo.  They were born on April 4 and look almost identical!  They explore and wrestle together, mutually groom each other and curl up together for a nap.  They love looking out the window together and chattering at birds.  Both are a little cautious when new people are on the scene, but it doesn’t take long before they come out and join in the social interaction.   While neither is a “full-on” lap kitty,  they are affectionate.  They enjoy being held and will sit close by, or lay on the bed with you for a while.  They have super soft fur and love being brushed.

Berta is more confident and talkative of the duo.  She meows to announce her presence.  She is fond of high places.   At bedtime, she has a kitten habit of kneading and suckling. She enjoys the view of the outdoors with Burt from the cat tree.

Burt often lets Berta take the lead at playtime, but he is not overshadowed by her.  He is very curious and finds delight in simple toys and makes play with the simplest of things.  If you look really carefully at the markings, Burt’s tabby stripes are a bit wider than Berta’s.

Burt and Berta currently share a foster home with adult cats and dogs, so they can be happy in a home with other pets, with proper introductions.  They have not been around children yet, but we feel that a home with children will be fine as long as they know to be gentle.   It will not take long for Burt and Berta to relax in your home and show you how wonderful they are!

If you are looking for a pair and double the love, please submit an adoption application for this delightful duo at www.pawsforlifenc.org.    Berta is spayed, Burt is neutered and both are microchipped and up to date on vaccines and microchipped.  They are negative for FeLV/FIV.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1. Review the description of the pet you are interested in to make sure that the information we have fits with your particular needs and desires. In most cases, the information on the website is current and gives the information that we have about the particular pet. The picture of the pet does not tell the whole story.

2. Complete the adoption application at https://pawsforlifenc.org. Please make sure that you give us as much information about yourself as you can. List all animals currently living with you including other dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and rodents. The application needs to be complete in order to help us determine if the pet you have chosen is a good match for your home.

3. Once the application is submitted we will contact you, your references, and your vet.

4. We require a home visit prior to dog adoptions.

5. If more than one person applies, we will go with the BEST fit. If all things are equal, we go in the order the applications were received.

6. Once the home visit has been completed, you will be asked to complete an adoption agreement.

7. The adoption fee is $325 for dogs under 6 months, $300 for 6 months and older. The adoption fee is $125 for kittens under 1 year ($225 for 2 kittens), $85 for cats 1 year and older. This fee helps us to provide the necessary medical care and other needs for the pets while in foster care.

8. All Paws For Life NC pets are spayed or neutered if old enough, current on shots, micro chipped, and to our knowledge, in good health before they are adopted out. Puppies under 6 months of age will require a $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee and a special puppy spay/neuter agreement. Kittens under 6 months will require a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee. We are all volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for our work with the pets. The adoption fee is used to help defray costs in the rescue and care of the pets.

9. Congratulations! You are on your way to having your new companion. We hope that you and your new companion share a life of love and happiness. We welcome any comments you may wish to give us about your pet at any time.
