My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Herman! This 3-year-old Hovawart blend weighs 55 lbs. Herman loves to love and is sure to be your new best friend!

  • General Behavior: Herman is a sweetheart full of kisses and snuggles! He’s an affectionate companion who thinks ‘sit’ means roll over and pet his belly, but how can you blame him with a face as cute as his?

  • Likes & Dislikes: Huggable Herman, aside from snuggling and receiving belly rubs, enjoys being with his family, swimming, playing with other dogs, chasing his ball, going on walks, and snoozing by his human's feet.

  • Training: This handsome boy has his foster parents swooning over him and his good basic manners. He walks well on the leash, and knows basic commands. He has completed a board and train with our partner trainers at Beyond the Leash!  He does well with his housetraining..

  • Medical: Herman has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), which affects his ability to absorb nutrients and digest his meals. This does not affect his quality of life; he just needs a supplemental powder placed on his meals, which he gobbles up quickly. Aside from this, he requires monthly heartworm and flea preventatives like any other dog. PPR will cover a year's worth of his EPI medication.

  • Other Animals: Herman enjoys romping around with other active and playful pooches. He has not been introduced to any cats, but we think he would do just fine with them.

  • Children: A home with older children (8+) would be idea. He is a very gentle boy, but sometimes does not know his size.

  • Home: A single-family home or dog-friendly apartment would be perfect for this happy-go-lucky pooch! He requires an active family that can provide him with the exercise and stimulation he craves and deserves.

  • Grooming: Herman has a medium-long length coat that requires regular brushing and occasional grooming, along with occasional baths and nail trims.

  • Overall: Happy Herman is so full of love, joy, and sweetness. He is sure to bring lots of smiles to his forever family!

Are you the one for Herman? Visit our website, www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org, where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with his foster family if it’s a match. He is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption donation is $350.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
