Marius is a cross between two livestock guardian breeds. Marius and his sibling's owners decided a vacation was more important than caring for their 8 dogs. Marius has not been socialized very much and takes a while to warm up to you. He is already a fantastic watch dog. He absolutely loves being outside and keeping an eye on things. He did come from a working farm so he needs an experienced owner that has prior experience with dogs that missed out on early socialization. He is affectionate to the staff that he knows, but it does take some effort on their part to win him over. This is pretty typical for guardian breeds. He will do best in a home without small children who may not understand that he needs some space and time to feel comfortable. Marius deserves a chance at having a happy home. He just needs the right happy home. He is not an apartment or condo dog. He simply would not do well in a situation where there is a lot of commotion or new people. He would love hanging out with his besties and getting all of their attention all day.

Home Check
Once we complete a Zillow and review Property Tax sites, we make arrangements for home check or Facetime of the property.

Meet the Pet
We are a Matchmaker then people picking a pup, so once all of the above is done, we do a Facetime with several potential dogs.

Approve Application
We are very diligent in the approval process but once all of our criteria is met, we send an e-mail notifying them of adoption approval.
6.
Sign Adoption Contract
They choose the dog they want, sign the contract, pay donation and we arrange for them to pick up the dog, transport.

We are looking for the right dog to go to the right home based on the information they provide to us on their application as well as the phone interview. Since we deal with large breed dogs only, there are times when we do not have the right match and we will refer them to a partner rescue.

At the present time, we do not have a facility to have adoption events at our Texas location. We are in the process of purchasing our own property and once that is complete, we will hold adoption events. We are also dealing with large breed dogs.

Animal House Project is a 501 c3 Nonprofit organization that operates several programs under our umbrella: a companion pet food pantry in the hopes to keep companion pets at home and out of shelters; a rescue pet food pantry - providing donated pet food to grass root small rescues who are struggling; low cost spay and neuter; and, a Large Breed Rescue.
The Rescue has been a passion of our Board President for many years and, in 2021, after seeing many large breed dogs being put down, the time had come to open the program. Our primary breed is Akitas, but we have also rescued Chows, Pyrenees and mixes.
